APC Leaders Endorse Leke Abegide for 2027 House of Representatives Race
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Yagba Federal Constituency are uniting in support of Rt. Leke Abegide, the party’s candidate for the upcoming 2027 House of Representatives elections. Advocates assert that the results of the party primaries reflect the true democratic will of the membership.
Support Group Addresses Criticism of Primaries
Members of the Leke Abegide Support Group (LASG) have dismissed recent criticisms of the primaries as the expressions of disappointment from politicians who failed to gain the backing of party delegates. According to the group, these individuals are attempting to undermine a legitimate electoral process.
Allegations of Undemocratic Practices Denied
In a statement issued to reporters, LASG refuted claims that there was an effort to extend Abegide’s tenure through undemocratic means. They emphasized that the lawmaker successfully adhered to the APC’s internal democratic processes, winning through a transparent and credible election campaign.
Candidacy Supported by Robust Constituency Engagement
The support group highlighted that Abegide’s candidacy was not a product of favoritism but rather the result of strong backing from constituents across all 34 areas within the Yagba Federal Constituency. They contended that leaders who challenged the results had supported rival candidates during the primaries, failing to earn the trust of party members.
Primaries Must Be Respected for Party Unity
“The primaries produced a clear winner, and the results should be upheld by all stakeholders in pursuit of party unity and democratic principles,” LASG stated. They also challenged calls for zoning or rotation in party candidacy selection, asserting that such arrangements cannot supersede eligible citizens’ rights to run for office or party members’ choices.
Highlighting Abegide’s Accomplishments
The group lauded Abegide’s achievements during his tenure, pointing to significant contributions in education, community empowerment, and infrastructure development. They cited scholarship programs, initiatives aimed at uplifting youth and women, and various constituency projects that have positively impacted the federal constituency.
Public Confidence in Abegide’s Leadership
Leaders underscored his popularity among constituents, noting that Abegide’s accessible nature and successful initiatives have cultivated public confidence. “People prioritize results, influence, and leaders who genuinely understand and cater to their needs,” the statement noted.
Call for Respecting the Democratic Process
APC leaders appealed to party members and the broader community to disregard any attempts at discrediting the primaries, emphasizing that the democratic process is clear and that Abegide’s mandate deserves respect. “The party members and the public have spoken; democracy has delivered its verdict,” they affirmed.
The official statement was signed by prominent figures including Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications Mr. John Johnson, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Chairman of Yagba West Local Government, Hon. Tosin Olokun, and Hon. Dare Joshua, Chairman of Yagba East Local Government, along with 21 additional leaders and grassroots advocates from the Yagba Federal Constituency.
