Senator Responds to Terror Plot Involving Immigrants
A prominent Senate Democrat has refrained from attributing a national security threat directly to illegal immigrants, despite recent revelations involving a terrorist plot linked to individuals from Mexico. This situation gained attention following the discovery that Abraham Alvarez, an illegal immigrant who overstayed his visa, was allegedly the mastermind behind a planned attack on a UFC event at the White House.
Details of the Plot Emerged
Abraham Alvarez, 31, purportedly orchestrated a network of 23 individuals intending to execute a “mass casualty” attack using an explosive drone on June 14, aimed at a high-profile event. Information from the Department of Homeland Security, obtained by Fox News Digital, identifies Alvarez as a notable figure in this concerning scheme.
Senator Cantwell’s Cautious Stance
In light of these findings, Fox News Digital sought the perspective of U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) regarding the potential implications for national security posed by illegal immigration. Her response was somewhat evasive, stating, “We have to keep a close eye on our national security, and we have to stop terrorist attacks,” without directly addressing the question of immigrant threats.
Investigation into Allegations Continues
Senator Cantwell indicated that further investigation into the case was necessary, saying, “We’ll look into the specific details. I don’t know about that.” Alvarez arrived in the U.S. as a minor, and after his B2 tourist visa expired in 2001, he was granted protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in 2014.
Cantwell’s Immigration Record
While not known for a hardline stance on immigration, Cantwell has often criticized the aggressive enforcement of immigration laws, particularly during the Trump administration. Her voting record reflects opposition to certain policies, including those perceived as fostering racial profiling by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Terrorism Charges and Motives
This month, in addition to Alvarez, five others were arrested for their alleged roles in the plot to target the White House event. Federal authorities reported that the attackers’ motives included grievances over government corruption, the influence of Israel on U.S. politics, and the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
Pursuit of Justice for the Plot’s Planners
Alvarez communicated intentions through messages, expressing a desire to procure “as many and deadly drones as possible.” Investigators noted that the targets included influential figures labeled as “capitalist elites” and politicians backed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Out of the 23 individuals identified, 18 remain uncharged, but all suspects could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment and substantial fines if convicted of planning violence on federal grounds.
