Financial Inclusion Initiative Transforms Access in Ogun State
Residents of the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area in Ogun State are experiencing improved access to financial services, thanks to a significant financial inclusion initiative launched by eTranzact International Plc. The project aims to onboard over 1,000 agents and deploy thousands of PocketMoni devices throughout the region’s communities.
Expanding Digital Financial Services
This initiative, introduced via the PocketMoni Business platform, seeks to broaden access to digital financial services in underserved areas while creating income-generating opportunities for local residents and small business owners.
Community-Centric Implementation
Collaborating with the Zonal Community Development Committee (CDC) of Obafemi Owode, eTranzact is committed to extending financial services beyond urban hubs and bringing convenient banking solutions directly to rural communities.
Enhancing Daily Transactions
The establishment of a growing network of agents and terminals enables residents to conduct everyday transactions—ranging from cash withdrawals and money transfers to bill payments—within their own neighborhoods. This development significantly reduces the need for long travels to access traditional banking services.
Local Leadership Commends Progress
Gboyega Kareem Adeleke, Chairman of the Community Development Commission, emphasized the initiative’s critical role in enhancing financial access and boosting economic activity in the local government area. He stated that prior to PocketMoni, residents would frequently travel long distances for basic transactions, making the availability of these services in their communities transformative.
Community Engagement as a Catalyst
Olalekan Disu, Head of Financial Inclusion at eTranzact International Plc, underscored the initiative’s focus on delivering financial services directly to communities. He remarked that financial inclusion goes beyond mere access; it involves creating opportunities and fostering trust at the grassroots level. By empowering local agents and deploying extensive terminals, the initiative is designed to stimulate economic activity and facilitate access to vital financial resources.
A Model for Future Expansion
Mr. Disu noted that the success achieved in Obafemi Owode highlights the importance of community engagement in promoting sustainable financial inclusion and supporting Nigeria’s shift toward a more digitally enabled economy. The initiative is part of a larger strategy aimed at closing the financial access gap in rural and semi-urban areas, while also advancing national financial inclusion objectives. Following positive feedback from local residents and stakeholders, eTranzact plans to replicate this successful model in other local government areas across the Southwest, further enhancing access to safe, convenient, and affordable digital financial services.
