Oshiomhole Endorses Death Penalty for Kidnappers in Edo State
Former Edo State Governor and current Senator for the Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, has publicly supported the death penalty for kidnappers and bandits, a proposal by Governor Okpeboro’s administration. His endorsement came during an address to party supporters at a campaign event in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area, on Saturday.
Restoration of Civil Liberties
In a statement released by Okpeboro’s media aide, Patrick Ebojere, Oshiomhole emphasized the restoration of civil liberties in Edo State under the Okpeboro administration. He asserted that it is only criminals who have reason to fear the state, reinforcing his commitment to tough measures against crime.
Support for State Police Force
Oshiomhole expressed his backing for the establishment of a state police force to assist the Nigeria Police Force in addressing security challenges. He argued that the appropriate governance of criminal laws is crucial in dealing with national crimes, thus supporting the execution of kidnappers and bandits by firing squad.
Commitment to Infrastructure Development
Governor Okpeboro, who spoke at the same event, reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare and development of Edo State’s populace. He highlighted various infrastructure projects in motion, including roads, schools, and markets, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Economic Reforms and Their Impact
The governor commended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies, which have increased funding available for state development projects. Okpeboro noted that these financial resources are critical for implementing major road constructions and building educational institutions.
Mobilizing for Upcoming Elections
During the campaign, Okpeboro introduced APC candidates to the public and urged supporters to strive for 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general election. He also lauded the completion of the Auchi-Ekpoma-Benin road rehabilitation as a significant accomplishment of the Tinubu administration.
Focus on Grassroots Development
Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, called on elected candidates to prioritize grassroots development and ensure all residents in Edo’s 18 local government areas benefit from democratic governance. He referred to these local elections as a crucial precursor to the national elections slated for 2027. Meanwhile, APC State Chairman Jarrett Tenebe urged candidates to draw inspiration from the founding leaders of Edo by focusing on local issues and service delivery. He reminded council presidents that they play a pivotal role in collaborating with Okpeboro to extend the government’s achievements throughout the state.
