Nigeria’s Security Challenges Demand Calm and Unity
Former Niger Delta activist and philanthropist Endurance Amagubane has called on Nigerians to remain composed amid the nation’s escalating security issues, emphasizing the need for unified support for the Federal Government and security forces as they tackle these challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amagubane, widely recognized as Adaka Boro II, issued his statement to journalists in Abuja on Monday, urging the public to rally behind government efforts in combating the surge of kidnappings, robberies, and other violent crimes plaguing the country.
While expressing empathy for the trauma endured by countless Nigerians affected by the rising tide of insecurity, Amagubane remains optimistic that the nation can overcome its challenges through collective effort. “I understand the pain and suffering of Nigerians, particularly those suffering from the consequences of kidnappings and violent crime,” he stated. “Hope is not lost; security forces are united in their determination to address banditry and terrorism.”
The former militant leader contended that certain opposition politicians are exploiting the deteriorating security environment to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the lead-up to the elections. He accused these political figures of deliberately instilling fear as part of a campaign strategy against the President’s “A New Hope” initiative.
Amagubane further criticized those who have benefited from the current regime yet turned against it for personal advantages. He insisted on the importance of national unity and called on Nigerians to retain their faith in the country, working collaboratively with authorities to combat crime. “Instead of despondence, we must join forces against those exploiting insecurity as a weapon against our government,” he urged.
Highlighting the complex nature of the security crisis, he lamented the troubling involvement of some community leaders in criminal activities, labeling it a betrayal of their grassroots responsibilities. “It is disheartening that individuals in trusted positions engage in abduction and robbery and subsequently shift the blame onto the administration,” he remarked.
In defense of President Tinubu, Amagubane articulated that the President should not bear the brunt of the nation’s security issues. He emphasized that the extensive efforts made by Tinubu in confronting threats to national security underscore his commitment to addressing the concerns facing ordinary citizens. “The measures being taken by the government against insurgents deserve more recognition,” he asserted, noting that public discussions often overlook successes in security interventions.
As calls for enhanced collaboration among security agencies, communities, and political leaders intensify, Amagubane encourages ongoing support for Tinubu’s “new hope” agenda while advocating for patience as the government works through the nation’s pressing challenges. He reiterated his steadfast support for Tinubu, asserting the need for continued effort in the fight against insecurity and disorder in Nigeria.
