North West University Engages in Strategic Academic Partnership with UK Institutions
North West University Sokoto (NWUS), in collaboration with UK Global North London Business School (GNLBS) and the University of East London (UEL), has proposed a strategic academic partnership designed to offer internationally recognized undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The collaboration aims to enhance academic standards and provide sponsorship opportunities for talented students.
Mr. Abdallah El Klebe, Director of Communications, Public Affairs, and Protocol at NWUS, shared details of the cooperation proposal in a statement on Tuesday. The document, dated May 22, 2026, and signed by GNLBS Research Director Dr. Julius Ayodele, seeks to align NWUS’s academic offerings with UK qualification standards while equipping students with essential globally competitive skills and qualifications.
The partnership will introduce undergraduate programs such as Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Management, Health and Social Management, Law, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with each program earning 360 credits.
This collaboration is expected to stimulate curriculum innovation, foster research partnerships, facilitate student exchange programs, enhance faculty development, and create professional training opportunities.
The Vice-Chancellor of North West University Sokoto, Professor Mukhtar Umar Bunza, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that it represents a significant advancement in their mission to provide globally competitive education. He highlighted that collaborating with GNLBS would unlock new opportunities for both students and staff, enhance academic programs, and elevate the university’s international profile. Bunza further emphasized that, if successfully implemented, this initiative would make a substantial contribution to human capital development in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.
On behalf of the Founder and Chairman of the Board, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako, the university management reaffirmed their commitment to the collaboration, pending further details and commitments that would ensure mutual benefits.
Exploring New Collaborations with the University of East London
In a related pursuit, North West University Sokoto has intensified its internationalization efforts by seeking a separate academic partnership with the University of East London focused on Computer Science and ICT. This initiative has been facilitated by Dr. Bilyaminu Romo, an Assistant Professor at UEL and a notable beneficiary of Senator Wamako’s Educational Empowerment Programme, which has aided many youths from Sokoto State in pursuing higher education and professional training both locally and globally.
Dr. Romo, leveraging his expertise in computer science and ICT, initiated a proposed technical partnership to enhance academic collaboration between NWUS and UEL. This partnership is poised to advance collaborative research, encourage faculty and student exchanges, support curriculum development, and enable knowledge transfer in emerging digital technologies.
The initiative also seeks to complement Senator Wamako’s enduring investments in youth empowerment and community development, creating additional opportunities for students and faculty to gain international exposure and engage with cutting-edge research and best practices in information technology.
