APC Reviews More Than 700 Petitions in Primary Elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, has announced significant changes to its candidate lineup following an extensive review of over 700 petitions submitted by dissatisfied party members after the recent primaries. The decision comes as the Naional Working Committee (NWC) interprets the Appeals Committee’s recommendations, signaling critical adjustments in certain constituencies.
Current Candidates Declared Absolute
In a clear indication of moving forward, the APC has declared the current list of candidates as final. This announcement marks the conclusion of the internal review process, allowing the party to focus on preparations for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Felix Molka, National Public Relations Secretary for the APC, emphasized that the leadership took careful steps to audit each complaint rather than simply dismissing them, resulting in a significant shift in some initially declared winners.
Progressive Governors Forum Engages National Chairman
As part of its strategy to foster unity ahead of the electoral race, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF)—which encompasses governors aligned with the APC—has proposed discussions with national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yurwatoda. This dialogue aims to address ongoing internal challenges and enhance the party’s overall cohesion.
Party Leadership Stresses Candidate Documentation
Molka outlined that the party’s immediate focus is on ensuring that all duly nominated candidates complete the required INEC Form EC9, which is critical for candidate validation. He clarified that the current crop of candidates includes both those who faced no challenges and those who were successful in the appeals process. “What we have now is the final position of the review,” Molka stated.
Streamlined Process for Candidate Submission
With the internal petition period concluded, the party is now urging candidates to promptly fill out their nomination forms and submit them through the INEC platform. According to Molka, the documentation process is underway, and candidates are in active communication with party leaders to facilitate a seamless transition into the electoral framework established by INEC.
Publishing Candidate List Not Current Priority
Molka further indicated that the revelation of the finalized candidate list for the 2027 elections is not the party’s top priority at this juncture. “Our emphasis now is on ensuring candidates meet the INEC deadlines rather than on releasing the shortlist,” he said, reassuring that all candidates are well-informed and no internal tension exists regarding their nominations.
Governors Address Political Strategy and Democratic Development
In a recent meeting, PGF Chairman Hope Uzodimma shared insights from discussions involving various state governors. The focus was on reviewing the party’s national primaries, analyzing recent electoral performances, and exploring internal unity strategies as the party gears up for the 2027 elections. Governors from states including Ekiti and Lagos were present, indicating a collective commitment to enhancing governance and supporting democratic progress in Nigeria.
