The week-long celebration aims to highlight the company’s journey of resilience, innovation, and operational excellence over the past four decades, as well as its contribution to the growth of Nigeria’s maritime and energy industries.

Themed “Transforming Lives 40 Years Later,” the event will gather policymakers, industry leaders, investors, maritime experts, and community stakeholders to reflect on SICL’s achievements while looking ahead to future opportunities for indigenous participation in Nigeria’s maritime industry and blue economy.
Week-Long Program of Activities
The festivities will kick off with a Thanksgiving service on July 4, followed by corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at benefiting local communities. Throughout the week, various activities will celebrate SICL’s commitment to entrepreneurship, indigenous capacity building, and community impact. The week will culminate on July 10 with a high-level maritime symposium titled “Embedding Resilience: 40 Years of Private Indigenous Initiatives Shaping Nigeria’s Maritime Future,” concluding with a gala to honor the company’s legacy and future ambitions.
A Legacy of Maritime Excellence
Founded in 1986 by maritime pioneer Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, SICL has transformed from a small indigenous marine services firm into one of Nigeria’s leading offshore marine logistics providers. Almost 40 years since operating its first ship, SICL now boasts a fleet of 11 offshore support vessels, delivering vital maritime logistics and offshore support services to significant domestic and international operators in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Significant Contributions and Innovations
Over the decades, SICL has been instrumental in fostering native participation in Nigeria’s offshore maritime arena, investing in modern vessels and developing local seafarers. The company demonstrates that indigenous firms can offer world-class offshore logistics services, having secured over 35 marine contracts since 2010 while supporting major energy projects in the country.
Commitment to Talent Development
A cornerstone of SICL’s ethos is its commitment to nurturing maritime talent within Nigeria. The company’s flagship cadet program trains over 100 young cadets each year, equipping them with practical maritime experience and structured mentoring. Many graduates of this program find successful careers in the industry, contributing to a robust pool of skilled maritime professionals and reinforcing SICL’s dedication to indigenous capacity development.
Focus on Future Growth
As part of its continued evolution, SICL has branched into a diversified business group that includes interests in security, automotive solutions, and gas distribution through subsidiaries such as Starzs Marine & Engineering Limited and Eaglewatch Security Limited. With over 200 employees and an unwavering commitment to operational excellence, SICL aims to build on its legacy with a focus on expanding indigenous capacity and enhancing its role in Nigeria’s blue economy.
