Prince Harry’s Upcoming London Visit Uncertain Amid Royal Family Tensions
LONDON — Prince Harry is expected to forgo a stay at Buckingham Palace during his upcoming visit to London later this week, as confirmed by his spokesperson on Monday. This revelation comes amid ongoing strains in his relationship with the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex, who resides in the United States with his wife, Duchess Meghan, and their two children, was initially slated to stay at the official royal residence. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the couple has dealt with significant public scrutiny and familial discord.
Reports from multiple news outlets, sourced from Buckingham Palace, indicate that Prince Harry did not provide adequate notice ahead of his visit to secure accommodations at the palace.
In response, Harry’s spokesperson expressed disappointment over the retraction of the offer for palace accommodation, stating, “We are disappointed that the offer has been withdrawn.”
Last week, Prince Harry mentioned that once alternative security arrangements were confirmed, he was prepared to formally accept the lodging offer over the weekend. Consequently, the spokesperson highlighted the confusion surrounding the last-minute withdrawal, especially after an acceptance was communicated.
Buckingham Palace, however, declined to comment on the situation when approached by NBC News on Monday.
Prince Harry, 41, is set to travel to London and Birmingham this week to participate in a series of charity events. Although plans initially included his wife and their children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, those arrangements were canceled over the weekend, leading to further speculation about the dynamics between him and his family, especially since the publication of his memoir, *Spare*.
The spokesperson for Prince Harry indicated that while he would not have his family accompany him to London, there was potential for them to join him on a later trip to Birmingham. This visit coincides with an upcoming court ruling related to his privacy case against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the *Daily Mail*. Although there is speculation that this legal matter may have influenced the accommodation decision, Buckingham Palace stated that it was aware of the situation since last Thursday.
The last occasion when Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan were together in the UK was during Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022. Since then, the Duke has made solo visits to Britain, including a brief meeting with King Charles III during a trip last September, after the King publicly claimed Harry had refused to communicate.
Harry has been candid about alleged family conflicts, including a strained relationship with his brother, Prince William, and has recounted moments of physical confrontation. He suggests that concerns from his father about media coverage have also fueled the discord. In his memoir, Harry emphasized that his narrative is not about revenge but rather about taking responsibility.
King Charles is currently undergoing cancer treatment but has had limited contact with his grandchildren since their births. Following his public expressions of frustration with his family, Prince Harry stated a desire for reconciliation by May 2025, acknowledging uncertain timelines regarding his father’s health.
