Police Launch Coordinated Operation in Abuja, Arrest 560 Suspects
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has successfully identified numerous crime hotspots across Abuja, leading to the arrest of 560 suspects during a recent coordinated operation aimed at combatting crime in the capital city.
Intelligence-Driven Raids Target High-Crime Areas
During a press conference held on Tuesday, Police Commissioner Ahmed Sanusi confirmed that the operation was guided by thorough intelligence gathering and a focus on community security initiatives. Raids were strategically executed in areas identified as high-crime zones, all part of an ongoing commitment to restore safety within the capital.
Significant Recoveries Made During Operations
Sanusi noted that these operations were conducted by various police departments within the command, resulting not only in the arrest of 560 individuals but also in the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and illegal narcotics. Key items recovered included a locally manufactured pistol, an AK-47 rifle, and live ammunition.
Uncovering Organized Crime: Kidnapping Syndicate Exposed
The police chief highlighted other critical developments, including the dismantling of a kidnapping syndicate referred to as the “One Chance” robbery group, which was responsible for the abduction of a female individual in the Maitama area. Law enforcement officials managed to recover the full ransom paid, alongside operational vehicles and various stolen items.
Gang Operations and Extortion Revealed
Investigations indicated that this gang had been active since 2024, primarily along the Kubwa Expressway and the Maitama Federal Housing Road, extorting approximately N12.8 million from at least five female victims. The extent of their operations raises alarms about the broader security challenges facing the capital.
Additional Arrests and Evidence Seized in Ongoing Efforts
Furthermore, police efforts led to the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and four individuals believed to be supplying ammunition and illicit drugs to criminal groups in the Kwari, Abaji, and Kuje area councils. A significant find during these operations included 42 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, which were recovered from a vehicle at Zuba Motor Park, alongside various illegal substances.
