Celebrating 46 Years of Marriage in Faith
The Redeemed Evangelization Mission (TREM) Atlanta, also known as God’s Embassy Smyrna, hosted a vibrant worship session to commemorate the 46th wedding anniversary of Presiding Bishop Dr. Mike Okonkwo and his wife, Dr. Peace Okonkwo. The event blended heartfelt celebrations with spiritual enrichment, creating an atmosphere of joy and reverence.
A Memorable Service Filled with Worship
The anniversary celebration featured a ceremonial cake cutting, an all-star worship service, and an impactful sermon delivered by Bishop Okonkwo. Drawing on scripture, he reflected on God’s boundless mercy towards believers, emphasizing how it shapes their spiritual journey and relationship with God.
Lessons from the Story of Mephibosheth
Bishop Okonkwo referenced biblical passages including 2 Samuel 19:1-7, Romans 4:25, and Matthew 22:29 while recounting the story of Mephibosheth, the disabled son of Jonathan, and his friendship with King David. He illustrated how David sought to honor Jonathan’s legacy despite his own accomplishments, highlighting the importance of lineage and mercy in the believer’s life.
The Significance of Being Born Again
In his sermon, Bishop Okonkwo elaborated on the transformative journey of being ‘born again,’ likening it to a rebirth of the mind. He asserted that this renewal aligns believers with God’s infinite grace and mercy, enabling them to receive unwarranted favor, akin to Mephibosheth’s experiences.
Understanding Identity in Christ
The Bishop stressed that many believers struggle with their identity in Christ, which can hinder their spiritual growth. He articulated his concern that an inadequate understanding of scripture leaves many vulnerable to spiritual challenges. Quoting passages from Matthew 22:29 and 1 Corinthians 6, he cautioned that a lack of knowledge can lead to destruction, and he advised congregants to deepen their understanding of the Word.
Encouragement to Seek Spiritual Knowledge
Bishop Okonkwo urged the congregation to actively pursue knowledge of God’s Word. He encouraged regular attendance at church services and personal study of the Bible, emphasizing the spiritual empowerment that comes from engaging with sacred texts. He reassured attendees of God’s unwavering support in their lives, saying that they need not fear or become disheartened.
Community Reflection on the Sermon
The celebration attracted former Super Eagles players, including Samson Siasia and Paul Ochke, who expressed gratitude for attending Bishop Okonkwo’s sermon. Longtime parishioners, such as Mrs. Tilda Dyke and Deacon Bisi Olaoye, shared how the Bishop’s message reinvigorated their commitment to serving God. Mrs. Dyke articulated her newfound perspective on God’s love during her times of mourning, while Deacon Olaoye felt reassured about his family’s challenges in today’s society, attributing this peace to the enlightening sermon.
