Kaduna State Approves Procurement of Fertilizer to Support Agribusiness
The Kaduna State Executive Council has sanctioned the procurement of 6,000 tonnes of fertilizer, translating to 120,000 bags of agricultural inputs designed to bolster smallholder farmers and enhance agribusiness activities within the state.
Meeting Chaired by Governor Uba Sani
The decision emerged from a meeting chaired by Governor Uba Sani, who was joined by Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe, Abdulkadir Mouaz Mayer, Secretary to the Provincial Government, and various other officials. This initiative aligns with the state’s commitment to support its agricultural sector.
Continuing Support for Farmers
Governor Uba Sani’s administration has consistently focused on agricultural empowerment. Notably, in August of the previous year, the state distributed 400 truckloads of fertilizer at no cost to 100,000 smallholder farmers. In 2024, Kaduna State marked its largest fertilizer distribution effort to date, delivering over 500 trucks of support aimed at enhancing productivity during the dry season.
Investment in Infrastructure Improvement
During a press briefing following the Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mr. Ahmed Mayaki, announced the council’s approval of the second phase of township road construction in the Zaria and Sabon Gari local government areas. This initiative aims to enhance road infrastructure, facilitating better movement of people and goods, thereby stimulating economic activities and improving access across the region.
Details of Road Construction Contracts
Mr. Mayaki provided specifics on the awarded contracts, noting that six out of eleven roads will be constructed by Mothercat Nigerian Limited. Significant routes include Baban Dodo-Durmi-Kofan Kuyambana and Limin Tsiwa-Kofan Gayan, which will connect the Secretariat with Alukawa and Qawra. Additionally, several major roads in the Zaria and Sabon Gari municipalities will be developed by Mother Cat, while Ms. CGC Nigeria Limited will oversee five projects, enhancing road connectivity within the region.
New Policies to Enhance Education
In further developments, the council approved the Kaduna State Life Skills Policy, a pioneering initiative aimed at equipping students with the necessary knowledge, competencies, and values for success in education and future employment. This policy emphasizes integrating life skills education into both formal and informal learning settings through comprehensive curriculum development and effective teaching methods.
Focus on Gender Equity in Education
Additionally, the council sanctioned the Kaduna State Policy on Gender in Education, which seeks to create a comprehensive framework for promoting equity and inclusion in educational environments. This policy aims to eliminate gender-based barriers to access and retention in schools, ultimately supporting the advancement of all learners regardless of gender. Through these initiatives, the state aims to enhance educational outcomes and promote a more inclusive learning atmosphere.
