Cyberbullying Mentioned in Death Note of Storage Wars Star
Darrell Sheets, the 67-year-old star of the reality series Storage Wars, tragically took his life in April, leaving behind a note that referenced a cyberbully. This shocking detail surfaced in an incident report from the Lake Havasu Police Department released this week.
Sheets was discovered deceased in his Arizona residence on April 22. Following the incident, the Mohave County Coroner’s Office confirmed that he died by suicide. The police indicated they were investigating allegations of cyberbullying that may have played a role in his death.
According to the incident report shared with NBC News, law enforcement found a note concealed in a bathroom closet near the area where Sheets was found. The note revealed his anguish, stating, “I couldn’t stand the bullying on Facebook any longer.”
As part of their investigation, authorities interviewed the individual accused of cyberbullying. The report indicated that he was uncooperative, denying any involvement in Sheets’ death and claiming he was “nowhere” near Arizona at the time.
During the police interview, the alleged bully mentioned he had received death threats and subsequently refused to answer further inquiries. Additionally, officers spoke with Sheets’ girlfriend, who recounted interactions they had shortly before his death.
On the night of the tragedy, Sheets had been texting his daughter-in-law when she warned him of suspicions regarding his girlfriend allegedly stealing money. Upset by the accusation, his girlfriend later picked up Sheets’ granddaughter from work. Upon her return, she found Sheets in bed but later discovered him in his office with a gun to his head, prompting her immediate concern.
In a frantic plea, she tried to reach out to him, and tragically, she heard a gunshot moments later. Following this, she called 911 for help. In subsequent discussions with police, she shared that Sheets had been stressed over accusations made against him and had recently experienced familial disputes that left him devastated.
First gaining fame in 2010 as “The Gambler” on Storage Wars, Sheets was known for his daring auction bids. The series continues to air, depicting the journeys of bidders who search for valuable items in abandoned storage units. Following his passing, several former co-stars expressed their condolences on social media, highlighting the severe impacts of bullying.
Rene Nejoda described Sheets as a dedicated family man who had recently faced severe online harassment. He stressed the importance of addressing cyberbullying and encouraged law enforcement to probe into such cases to prevent further tragedies.
