Trump’s Name Adorned on Florida Airport and Tennessee Bridge
As President Donald Trump prepares for his next visit to Mar-a-Lago, he is expected to land at an airport bearing his name. Additionally, motorists traveling along Interstate 40 in eastern Tennessee will soon pass a bridge that honors him, reflecting his penchant for having various facilities and projects named after him.
Palm Beach International Airport has officially been renamed Donald J. Trump Presidential International Airport, as announced by airport officials. This change follows legislation signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in March, aimed at honoring the former president’s legacy.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed pride in the name change: “A very important day in Palm Beach, Florida. It was my great honor to see the successful vote to change the name of Palm Beach International Airport to Donald J. Trump Presidential International Airport. This will soon be one of the greatest and most magnificent airports anywhere in the world!”
On the same day, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent participated in a ceremony in Dandridge, Tennessee, where the state legislature enacted a law to rename several bridges and roads. One notable change includes the designating of a bridge in Jefferson County as the Presidential Donald J. Trump Bridge, previously known as the Francis Barnett Swan Memorial Bridge.
“From today onwards, every driver who encounters this bridge will know that this bridge bears his name, because he never stopped fighting for the people who cross it,” Bessent stated, highlighting Trump’s commitment to the community he served.
Renaming the airport entails an estimated cost of at least $5.5 million for updating signage, branding, and other materials in the upcoming weeks. The airport has already begun the transition process, confirming on social media, “We are officially in transition mode! We are working behind the scenes to update our physical signage, terminal space, and digital channels to our new name.” The plan encourages travelers to expect a blend of old and new branding during this period.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office approved the Trump’s family’s application to trademark the airport’s new name on June 18. Trump Force One, Trump’s private jet, was the first aircraft to land at the rebranded airport at 5:01 a.m. ET following the name change, as confirmed by Eric Trump on social media. Although the official name change is now in effect, the airport’s three-letter code will be retained as “PBI” until transitioning to “DJT” on August 18.
While this rebranding unfolds, billboards featuring Trump’s name have recently appeared in both Florida and Tennessee, marking a notable shift in public sentiment following the removal of his name from the Kennedy Center earlier this year. This removal followed a federal court ruling that mandated the elimination of all references to Trump at the center and its associated website.
