Tinubu Affirms Shettima as 2027 Running Mate
President Bola Tinubu has officially confirmed Vice President Kassim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, putting an end to months of speculation regarding Shettima’s political future.
This decision was made public on Friday when Nentawe Yurwatoda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), announced that the party had received the presidential nomination forms for both Tinubu and Shettima in preparation for the upcoming elections.
The announcement dispels ongoing rumors that Tinubu was considering replacing Shettima with a northern Christian candidate as his vice-presidential partner.
Yurwatoda shared the news on X, highlighting that this milestone marks a significant step forward in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
“Today signifies an important milestone in our party’s journey as we formally received the presidential nomination forms of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the GCFR and His Excellency Vice President Kassim Shettima of the GCON,” he stated. “This moment reaffirms our commitment to advancing the Agenda of New Hope and furthering the progress already made across Nigeria.”
The nomination was presented on behalf of the President by Mr. Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, during a ceremony held at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.
The event, attended by numerous governors, party leaders, and stakeholders from across the nation, showcased the unified support for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima as they aim for a new mandate from the Nigerian electorate.
Yurwatoda noted the presence of numerous prominent figures, including Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Governor of Imo State, and several other governors and party executives who all contributed to the party’s momentum.
Describing the environment at the event, Yurwatoda emphasized the united front of the APC, stating, “The atmosphere was filled with unity, confidence, and a shared sense of purpose. As we look toward 2027, the All Progressives Congress is dedicated to enhancing grassroots support, solidifying the gains achieved under the New Hope Agenda, and working collaboratively to build a more prosperous, secure, and inclusive Nigeria for all.”
The formal submission of the nomination forms serves as a strong indication that Tinubu and Shettima will again be the APC’s presidential candidates for the 2027 elections, effectively concluding rampant speculation about the party’s candidacy.
