Sheraton Lagos Hotel Enhances Sustainability with New Gas-Powered Systems
The Sheraton Lagos Hotel, a fixture in Nigeria for over four decades, has taken significant steps towards sustainability by installing new gas-powered generators and burners. This initiative aligns with the hotel’s long-term strategy to reduce operational costs while embracing environmentally friendly practices.
Officials gathered for the inauguration ceremony held on the hotel premises, where they celebrated this milestone in the hotel’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and enhanced guest experiences.
In his address, Mr. Theophilus Eniola Netufo, Group Managing Director and CEO of Ikeja Hotels Limited, expressed gratitude for the collaboration that made this project possible. He commended the Marriott team for their cost-effective approach and for fostering partnerships that ultimately benefit stakeholders.
Netufo emphasized the significance of teamwork, stating, “What we witnessed today is the result of a strong partnership between owners and operators. This collaborative spirit is unprecedented in the history of our company.” His remarks highlighted the positive outcome of their joint efforts, showcasing a commitment to drive the company forward.
Martin Bredenold, General Manager of the Sheraton Lagos Hotel, highlighted the importance of environmentally responsible initiatives. He noted that as energy costs continue to rise, transitioning to gas generators not only promises substantial savings but also aligns with environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) goals. “Our initial calculations suggest an 18-month return on investment for these new generators,” Bredenold stated.
In addition to the gas generators, Bredenold announced plans for implementing charging stations for electric vehicles in collaboration with their electricity provider. “This is just one step we are taking towards sustainable energy solutions,” he added, mentioning future prospects of solar power installations in the hotel’s parking lots and buildings.
Outlet Manager Mr. Feysayo Oluwaseyi elaborated on the environmental benefits of the new gas generators, pointing out their reduced emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered options. “Natural gas significantly improves air quality and produces less waste,” he remarked, stressing the hotel’s commitment to its local community by minimizing its environmental impact.
The hotel is firmly dedicated to sustainability, supporting the global shift towards clean energy. “By reducing CO2 emissions, we are not only enhancing our operational efficiency but actively contributing to global climate goals. This is fundamental to our identity as a leader in the hospitality industry,” Oluwaseyi concluded, underscoring the hotel’s commitment to a cleaner, greener future.
