New Leadership at the Chartered Institute of Directors of Nigeria
Dr. Chamberlain S. Peterside has officially taken office as the newly elected Chairman of the Port Harcourt Chapter of the Chartered Institute of Directors of Nigeria (CIoD). In his inaugural address, Dr. Peterside committed to enhancing the CIoD’s visibility, expanding its membership base, and mentoring future corporate leaders throughout his term.
The ceremony, held in Port Harcourt, marks Dr. Peterside’s ascendance as the fifth Executive Chairman of the CIoD Nigeria’s Port Harcourt Branch. Emphasizing the significance of his new role, he expressed enthusiasm for the challenges that lie ahead.
“I am dedicated to upholding the values and principles that this Institute espouses, both locally and on a national level,” he stated. Dr. Peterside outlined his agenda which prioritizes the engagement of existing members while drawing new individuals into the organization. A particular emphasis will be placed on attracting senior civil servants and public sector professionals keen to adopt principles of good governance.
His roadmap for tenure can be encapsulated in the acronym VMM—Visibility, Membership, and Mentorship. “We aim to enhance the Institute’s visibility, expand its regional footprint, and advocate for the national vision,” he explained. In addition, he highlighted the importance of nurturing the next generation of corporate leaders among the youth.
Another integral goal of Dr. Peterside’s administration is to establish a prominent CIoD House in Port Harcourt, which will enhance the institute’s operational capacity. “This state-of-the-art facility will serve as both our administrative center and a repository for corporate knowledge, becoming the focal point of our activities,” he added. The envisioned CIoD House aims to host corporate events and provide modern amenities for members and the community.
During the inauguration, Mr. Adetunji Oyebunji, Chairman of the CIoD Nigeria Board of Directors, emphasized that this appointment represented more than just a change in leadership. It signified a renewed commitment to strengthening the chapter, promoting sound corporate governance, and fostering effective leadership across Rivers State and Nigeria.
Mr. Oyebunji highlighted the strategic importance of the Port Harcourt branch, noting its potential to influence business leadership and promote good governance within the South-South region, a vital hub for Nigeria’s commercial and industrial activity.
In a thought-provoking keynote, guest speaker George Etomi delivered a speech titled “Visual Leadership, Sound Corporate Governance and Ethical Management: Essentials for Sustainable Economic Growth in a Dynamic Environment.” He asserted that sustainable economic growth cannot be achieved through policy alone, calling for visionary leadership, robust corporate governance, and ethical management practices to foster trust and responsible resource management.
