North East APC Leaders Praise President Tinubu for Vice Presidential Nomination
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nigeria’s North East region have expressed their support for President Bola Tinubu’s decision to renominate Vice President Kassim Shettima as his running mate for the upcoming 2027 general elections. This endorsement reflects a strong belief in loyalty, competence, and inclusiveness within the administration.
Recognition of Loyalty and Performance
A statement issued on Saturday by Haruna Sardauna, the Coordinating Chairman of the North East APC Youth Key Stakeholders Forum, highlighted that Tinubu’s choice reaffirms confidence in the government’s “New Hope” agenda. Furthermore, it emphasizes the Northeast’s critical role in national political dynamics.
Shettima’s Legacy and Strategic Importance
The forum lauded Shettima as “the most loyal, reliable, and results-oriented vice president in Nigeria’s history,” underscoring that his previous performance justifies the trust placed in him by the president and the ruling party. The statement underscored that Shettima’s renomination signifies not just a personal achievement but also a critical acknowledgment of the Northeast’s strategic significance in the political landscape.
Commitment to Fair Representation
Sardauna also reminded stakeholders that the forum had previously advocated for the demarcation of the vice presidential constituency within the Northeast ahead of the 2023 elections. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for upholding this agreement. “We extend our sincere thanks to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for retaining the vice presidential position for the North East through Vice President Kassim Shettima. This decision reflects fairness and political wisdom,” he stated.
Youth Engagement and Electoral Mobilization
The forum pointed out that youths represent over 70 percent of registered voters in the region and pledged to mobilize substantial support for the APC in the 2027 elections. “Our youth constitute a significant portion of the total registered voters in the Northeast. As the largest demographic group, we will mobilize effectively to support the APC and acknowledge this act of trust and inclusion. The Northeast commits to delivering results,” Sardauna emphasized.
Resilience and Recognition of the Region
Sardauna asserted that retaining the vice presidential position for the Northeast symbolizes recognition of the resilience shown by communities affected by insurgency. He noted that the federal government’s initiatives to restore security and promote recovery in the region have fostered renewed hope. “The assignment of the vice presidency to the Northeast acknowledges the tenacity of its people. With the President’s intervention programs aimed at rebuilding affected areas, we are seeing positive change in security and economic development,” the statement noted.
Advancing Inclusive Governance and Infrastructure Development
The forum highlighted that the Tinubu administration has provided the region with a “new sense of belonging” through comprehensive infrastructure projects, humanitarian efforts, and inclusive governance. They believe Shettima’s reappointment will further consolidate these achievements. Sardauna urged APC members, traditional leaders, and civil society organizations across the North East to unite in support of the Tinubu-Shettima candidacy as the 2027 elections approach.
“Now is the time to demonstrate our gratitude through voting. We are well-prepared, united, and dedicated to securing victory for the APC in 2027,” he concluded.
