Investment in Education Highlighted at Smart School Commissioning
The Minister of Education, Marufu Tunji Alausa, has officially inaugurated the Ogbo Central Smart School in Ubakara, a project initiated by the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Otti. This facility aims to enhance the educational landscape and equip local students to compete on a global scale.
During the commissioning ceremony, Alausa commended Governor Otti for his visionary leadership and commitment to education reform. He emphasized that sustainable development extends beyond physical infrastructure like roads and bridges; it requires significant investments in education and intellectual capital.
The minister articulated the objective behind the governor’s educational reforms, stating, “The aim is to empower every child in Abia State with the knowledge and abilities necessary to thrive locally, nationally, and internationally.” He acknowledged Otti’s commitment to building multiple smart schools, underscoring the governor’s dedication to the welfare of his constituents.
“Abia’s children will have access to educational resources comparable to those available in the United States and the United Kingdom. They will learn about artificial intelligence and, in the coming years, Abia will emerge as a global leader,” Alausa added.
In his address entitled “Tomorrow is the Reward,” Otti noted that the Ubakara smart school is the first of three such projects set to launch across the state this month. He revealed plans for an additional 17 smart schools, one in each local government area, dedicated to providing quality education for students.
“Abia is entering a new era characterized by technology-driven, participatory learning models,” Otti stated. He announced that by the end of the year, each of the 20 smart schools will feature interactive boards, and every student—300 per school, with 30 per classroom—will receive a tablet to enhance their educational experience.
The governor highlighted recent developments such as the Manutech UniiPod and the commissioning of smart schools as indicative of his administration’s priorities. “We are transforming human capital into a crucial engine for economic growth and development,” he declared. Otti reiterated that education in these smart schools will be free and compulsory and warned against any form of exploitation or damage to school infrastructure.
In response to concerns raised by the Ubakara Improvement Association, Otti directed relevant officials to follow up on requests for speed limits on Ubakara Road and to address pressing environmental issues like erosion.
Goodluck Ubochi, Secretary of Basic and Secondary Education, underscored that this event signifies Abia State’s commitment to preparing its children for the future. He expressed gratitude to the governor for recognizing education as fundamental to building a brighter future.
Lydia Onuoha, Executive Chairman of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), described the Smart Schools Initiative as a strategic investment aimed at equipping Abia’s youth with essential skills for the 21st-century economy. She explained that the Ogbo Central Smart School houses 13 technologically equipped classrooms, an early childhood development center, a modern library, a 30-seat ICT center, a hospital room, and a dedicated girls’ room.
Mr. Orieji Okwara Emele, CEO of Blue Giraffe Development Limited, emphasized the transformative potential of this project for the youth of Abia State. He lauded Otti for prioritizing educational initiatives that substantially benefit the community.
Godwin Obioma Mbaonu, President of the Ubakara Improvement Association, expressed gratitude for the school’s commissioning, calling it a pivotal moment in the community’s educational journey and a valuable gift. He recognized the efforts of leadership that have made this initiative possible, stating, “The people of Ubakara appreciate this legacy of visionary governance.”
Governor Otti’s commitment to education and governmental transparency reflects a strategic vision that seeks to redefine the educational landscape in Abia State, ensuring that future generations are equipped to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
