Governor Otti Reaffirms Commitment to Abia Seaport Project
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to advancing the Abia Seaport project. This commitment was voiced during a celebration honoring the 83rd birthday of former Minister of Education and Health, Mr. Ikechukwu Chidoji Madubuike, in Umuahia.
Celebrating a Visionary Leader
In his address, Governor Otti congratulated Madubuike on reaching this significant milestone and on the unveiling of three books authored by the esteemed statesman. He praised Madubuike as an outstanding scholar, effective administrator, and devoted family man, recognizing him as one of Abia’s most distinguished intellectuals.
Honoring Local Heroes
Otti emphasized the importance of acknowledging local heroes while they are still alive, stating that a society lacking such celebrations risks losing its identity. He remarked, “Professor Madubuike has earned this celebration through a lifetime of scholarship, integrity, and service.”
Merit Above Politics
The governor insisted that his administration prioritizes merit and service over political affiliations, highlighting the significance of recognizing all Abians who have made valuable contributions to society. He noted the government’s efforts to honor individuals from various political backgrounds, uniting them through their shared commitment to the state.
Transformations in Education and Healthcare
In response to suggestions from attendees, the governor discussed the substantial improvements underway in the educational sector, particularly at Abia State University, Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, and Abia State College of Education and Technology in Arochukwu, as well as advancements in healthcare. He detailed how the university has been revitalized after years of neglect, with renovated hostels and improved learning facilities. Additionally, he announced that lost accreditation has been restored and new programs in artificial intelligence, robotics, and 3D printing have been launched.
Progress on the Abia Seaport Project
Governor Otti reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Abia Seaport project, revealing that a feasibility study is currently being conducted by a Chinese firm to secure funding. “We are serious about building Abia Port, and it will happen in our generation,” he asserted. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to providing world-class healthcare and education as part of the future they owe the citizens.
Support from Prominent Figures
Former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige, who presided over the event, lauded Madubuike as a patriotic Igbo scholar who significantly contributed to the establishment of the Federal Medical Center in Igboland. He expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for recognizing Madubuike’s contributions and praised the quality of roads constructed under Otti’s administration. Ngige urged the people of Abia to maintain their support for Otti to ensure the completion of his constitutional eight-year term.
Tributes from Fellow Leaders
Former Minister of Labor and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejocha, also congratulated Madubuike and commended Governor Otti for his efforts in uplifting the state. She paid tribute to the celebrant as a valuable contributor to the nation’s growth. Meanwhile, Mr. Mao Ofabunwa honored the achievements of both Madubuike and Governor Otti, acknowledging Madubuike’s pivotal role in the establishment of state-run and private universities during his tenure as finance secretary and education minister.
