Yemi Sowunmi Kolapo Champions PDP as Solution to Ogun State’s Challenges
Yemi Sowunmi Kolapo, the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the upcoming 2027 Ogun State election, has positioned the PDP as the sole credible option capable of addressing the region’s socio-economic and developmental issues. Her remarks came during a community visit to Ijemo in the Abeokuta South Local Government Area on Tuesday.
Strong Support at Community Rally
The rally attracted a significant turnout of party supporters, community leaders, and local residents. Kolapo received a warm welcome alongside the party’s Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Mr. Iyabo Obasanjo, and other prominent party members, reinforcing the PDP’s visibility in the area.
Call for Collective Action Against Intimidation
Addressing the crowd, Sowunmi Kolapo emphasized the need for the people of Ogun, particularly those from Egba land, to unite against intimidation and demonstrate their commitment by voting for the PDP. She asserted that the party’s governorship election reflects the aspirations and needs of the state’s residents.
PDP’s Commitment to Ogun State’s Future
She passionately stated, “The citizens must align with an opposition party that genuinely represents their interests.” Kolapo highlighted the PDP’s historical track record in governance, asserting that it remains the most reliable political force for reshaping the future of Ogun State.
Confidence in Regaining Governance
Expressing optimism about the PDP’s chances of regaining power, she assured supporters that neither the party nor its members would yield to political pressure as the 2027 elections approach. “We will not be intimidated. We know the importance of our vote,” she asserted.
Hospitality Versus Leadership Authenticity
Kolapo urged vigilance among the Egba people, stressing the importance of local leadership. While she welcomed newcomers to the community, she indicated that true governance should reside with those who genuinely understand and represent the local populace. “We can embrace others but will not allow them to lead us,” she declared.
Unified Efforts for a Stronger PDP
Abayomi Tera, the chairman of the Ogun State PDP, reinforced Kolapo’s message, stating that the PDP offers a proven record of delivering benefits to citizens. He encouraged voters to reflect on the party’s legacy compared to that of previous administrations, asserting that past achievements remain evident. Tera called for unity among party members to enhance grassroots mobilization and voter registration ahead of the critical election.
Appeal for Egba Solidarity
Mr. Iyabo Obasanjo echoed the sentiment, urging the Egba community to unite behind the PDP. He highlighted the need for the party to select a leader from the Egba populace for the next governorship election, asserting that the PDP is the only political entity capable of elevating Ogun State to new heights. “Let us come together and support our own,” he urged, reinforcing the party’s commitment to the region’s advancement.
