The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has enthusiastically welcomed Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla back into its fold. Representing the Osun Central Senatorial District, his return is being hailed as a courageous and timely decision. Earlier this year, Senator Ajagunla defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing personal reasons for his departure.
In a statement from the party’s national leadership, led by Prime Minister Abraman Mohammed, Osun State PDP Chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi emphasized that Ajagunla’s comeback reaffirms the PDP’s status as a natural political home for progressive leaders dedicated to the welfare and development of the community. Bisi remarked that the senator’s retreat from the disarray of the APC signals a broader trend, wherein the opposition has replaced democratic principles with selfish interests and internal discord, fostering an unwelcoming environment for principled politicians.
“We are thrilled that our brother, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, is poised to rejoin political discourse. His return signifies a positive shift for our members and supporters, who believe that integrity should prevail over political expediency,” Bisi shared. He extended congratulations to Ajagunla, highlighting that this bold decision reinforces a growing sentiment among politicians of integrity that the PDP remains the sole platform committed to justice, inclusivity, and sincere public service.
Moreover, Bisi noted the strategic importance of Ajagunla’s return as he stands as the PDP’s senatorial candidate for the 2027 general elections. This move not only re-establishes a significant asset for the party but also enhances its readiness for future electoral challenges. The chairman expressed confidence that Ajagunla’s extensive experience and grassroots appeal will further the party’s mission for effective governance and the fortification of democracy in Osun State.
“It’s noteworthy that Senator Rabiu Adesina, representing Iwo State constituency, recently departed from the APC under contentious circumstances, which parallels Senator Ajagunla’s own experience,” Bisi pointed out. He added that seasoned politicians, with deep ties to grassroots movements, are increasingly recognizing the APC’s disregard for loyalty and democratic standards.
“If the APC genuinely comprised democrats dedicated to public service, we wouldn’t witness a consistent exodus of respected leaders and elected officials, each leaving after experiencing deception,” Bisi explained. He articulated that the APC now operates under a culture of exploitation, further elucidating the discord experienced by many who transitioned from the PDP to the APC, who have since realized the distinction between altruistic politics and self-serving motives.
Encouraging other disenchanted politicians to follow Ajagunla’s example, Bisi urged them to return to the PDP before facing the disillusionment synonymous with the APC. “It is no honor to remain on a sinking ship. Those who prioritize Osun State’s interests should reclaim their political footing. Our doors remain open to all patriots who wish to collaborate for a more prosperous Osun,” he stated.
Highlighting the critical timing of Ajagunla’s return, Bisi noted the need for unity among all stakeholders to secure the re-election of Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. Governor Adeleke’s transformational policies have garnered support across various political and social demographics. “I warmly welcome Senator Ajagunla back and urge him to immediately gather support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election through a unifying effort. This initiative is backed by the Osun PDP and aims to facilitate continuity, stability, and sustainable development following challenges that previously hindered the governor’s re-election on the PDP platform,” he concluded, promising an environment of respect and opportunities for all returning members to contribute meaningfully to Osun State’s progress and the success of the governor’s re-election campaign.
