Sokoto State Government Celebrates Graduation of 1,550 Security Personnel
The Sokoto State Government has taken a significant step in enhancing community-based security with the graduation of 1,550 personnel from the Sokoto State Security Agency (SOSMA). The graduation ceremony, held in the state capital, achieved a historic first for SOSMA with the inclusion of its first female operative among the graduating class. Among the 1,550 graduates, 70 women emerged, indicating a progressive shift towards inclusive and grassroots policing in Sokoto.

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji attended the event as the special guest of honor. He was joined by prominent figures including Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako, the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, alongside other federal and state representatives from both Sokoto and Ekiti.
Comprehensive Training for Newly Graduated Marshals
The new marshals were rigorously trained in four professional areas, namely environmental regulation, security and intelligence, traffic management, and public infrastructure protection. This multifaceted training equips them with the necessary skills to address a variety of security challenges effectively.

In his address, Governor Oyebanji lauded Senator Wamako as a key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and expressed his gratitude to Sokoto Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the invitation, marking his inaugural visit to the historic seat of the Caliphate. He emphasized that the formation and graduation of SOSMA reflect Governor Aliyu’s unwavering commitment to achieving lasting peace and unity, aligning with the broader national security framework advocated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Governor Aliyu reassured attendees of his administration’s firm dedication to safeguarding lives and properties within the state. He announced plans to provide vehicles, motorcycles, and essential logistics to enable effective operational capacity for the newly deployed marshals across all 23 local governments, further collaborating with existing SOSMA personnel and community security forces.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, underscored the notion that security is a collective responsibility, praising the state government for its substantial investment in public safety. Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bello Sifawa, reiterated the government’s commitment of significant resources toward security initiatives, indicating no intention of scaling back these efforts.
Rigorous Training and Awards for Excellence
Retired Lieutenant General Shehu Yau, the training coordinator, mentioned that the cadets underwent a comprehensive training regimen designed to prepare them for contemporary security challenges. The graduation event concluded with the presentation of awards to the marshals who excelled during their training, celebrating their hard work and dedication.
