Akwa Ibom Governor Affirms Nigeria’s Investment Potential Amid Challenges
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has asserted that Nigeria remains Africa’s most appealing investment destination, despite current economic challenges. He attributes this attractiveness to the country’s expansive market, youthful, technology-savvy population, plentiful natural resources, and stable democratic environment.
Call for Enhanced Security Cooperation in Africa
Governor Eno emphasized the necessity for intelligence sharing and collaborative efforts among governments, security agencies, and communities across the continent to combat transnational threats effectively. He advocates for stronger regional and continental cooperation to tackle emerging security issues, promoting peace, stability, and economic prosperity in Africa. He underscored that security, inclusive leadership, and community-focused governance are critical for fostering sustainable growth.
Award Recognition for People-Centered Governance
Represented by Deputy Governor Akon Eyakeni, Eno recently received the prestigious African Leaders in People-Centered Governance Award in Banjul, Gambia. In a statement released by the Secretary of Information, Anikan Umana, he dedicated the honor to the people of Akwa Ibom State, acknowledging their collective contributions towards fostering a peaceful and prosperous society.
Advocating for Effective Governance
In his address at the Sir Dauda Jawara International Conference Center, Eno noted that effective governance must extend beyond political leadership and focus on the tangible improvement of citizens’ lives. He stated that meaningful development can thrive only when personal safety and the rule of law are maintained.
Showcasing Development Achievements
Utilizing the international platform, Eno highlighted his administration’s accomplishments under the ARISE agenda, which encompasses initiatives across agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, tourism, and social welfare. He revealed that his administration has constructed over 1,346 kilometers of roads and bridges, established the Ibom Model Farm, and launched the Tree Revolution. Additionally, he reported the commissioning of a 350-bed Ibom International Hospital and the enrollment of more than 300,000 residents in the state health insurance scheme.
Strategic Investments in Akwa Ibom’s Future
Governor Eno outlined plans to position Akwa Ibom as a key investment and tourism hub through significant projects, including renovations of the ARISE Palm Resort and the International Convention Center. He also discussed the expansion of Ibom Air’s regional operations and ongoing efforts to establish the Ibom Deep Sea Port, emphasizing that Akwa Ibom is prepared to collaborate globally across land, air, and sea.
Commitment to Enhanced Security Measures
On the security front, Governor Eno reported enhancements in internal security, including the establishment of a dedicated Department of Internal Security and Waterways, led by a military veteran. He discussed collaborations with traditional security agencies for improved intelligence gathering and community engagement, showcasing initiatives like the Ibom Community Watch and the construction of a modern security command and control center. Eno concluded by advocating for the establishment of a state police force to strengthen grassroots policing.
