Seplat Energy Champions Educational Development in Africa
Seplat Energy Plc, Nigeria’s foremost indigenous energy company, has reiterated its dedication to enhancing education and nurturing Africa’s future workforce. The company underscored the importance of strengthened collaboration among governments, the private sector, and development partners to foster sustainable educational systems throughout the continent.
Leadership in Education Transformation Highlighted at Summit
During the 2026 Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS), Chief Executive Officer Rogers Brown, represented by Chioma Afe, Director of External Relations and Social Performance, emphasized the company’s stance. The summit hosted a plenary session titled “Empowering Africa’s Future: Private Sector Leadership in Education Transformation,” bringing together policymakers, business leaders, academics, and educators to examine strategic partnerships and digital innovations essential for preparing Africa’s youth for future employment opportunities.
Partnerships Driving Meaningful Change
Brown emphasized that Seplat’s collaboration with ASIS illustrates its commitment to actionable change in education. He stated, “Our partnership with the Africa Social Impact Summit provides an opportunity to collaborate with organizations that share our vision of transforming education on a national scale. This goes beyond just conversation to action.”
Investments in Educational Initiatives
Seplat Energy is actively investing in educational development within its host communities in Edo, Delta, and Imo states, with plans to expand its efforts into Akwa Ibom. These investments encompass a range of initiatives, including basic and secondary education, tertiary scholarships, teacher empowerment programs, STEAM education through the company’s Energy Access Initiative and STEAM Institute, as well as innovations in clean energy through the Seplat Innovation Program in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPCL).
Call for Collaborative Efforts in Education
“No country, industry, or institution can tackle these challenges in isolation,” Brown asserted. He stressed the need for collaboration, effective policy-making, and continued private sector investment to equip young individuals with the skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving environment and advance education across the continent.
Education as a Pillar of Economic Growth
At the summit, Education Minister Suwaiba Ahmad emphasized that education constitutes “the most strategic investment a nation can make.” She commended Seplat Energy for its long-standing contributions to educational initiatives, including scholarships, teacher development, and infrastructure upgrades. Ahmad noted that a robust educational foundation is critical for economic growth, innovation, and national competitiveness, with digital transformation playing a pivotal role in creating a future-ready education system.
Diverse Funding Needed for Educational Advancement
The minister also called for increased private sector investment in vital areas such as school connectivity, digital infrastructure, educational technology, and vocational training. Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, speaking on behalf of his deputy, highlighted the necessity of collaborative partnerships in financing development across critical sectors, including education. He reaffirmed the significance of investing in youth to build resilient economies and unlock Africa’s long-term growth potential.
