A collaborative effort between local hunters and the Katsina State Area Monitoring Corps has thwarted a substantial bandit assault on Guga village in the Bakoli Local Government Area. This operation resulted in the deaths of over 40 armed bandits and the neutralization of several high-ranking commanders.
Details of the Attack and Government Response
The Katsina State Government shared the details of the attack via a statement from Internal Security and Home Affairs Secretary Nasir Muazu. The incident unfolded around 5:40 PM on Sunday, when more than 200 heavily armed bandits, led by the notorious kingpin Idi Abbas Aiki and bolstered by members of the Ado Aler group from neighboring Zamfara State, launched what they termed a retaliatory raid on Guga village.
Intelligence Prevents Wider Catastrophe
Prior intelligence indicated a looming threat from the bandits, who aimed to eliminate local hunters and community watchdogs in preparation for a systematic strike against Bakoli town and surrounding villages. However, due to effective surveillance and intelligence operations, security forces executed a rapid, coordinated response, leading to intense firefights that compelled the attackers to withdraw amidst heavy losses.
Heavy Casualties for Bandit Leaders
During this operation, it was confirmed that more than 40 bandits were neutralized, alongside the elimination of approximately eight senior commanders within the criminal faction. Authorities believe that Idi Abbas Aiki sustained life-threatening injuries during this confrontation.

This recent engagement follows a previously successful security operation on July 7, 2026, in Dhawan Laila village, where the same criminal network endured significant losses at the hands of local hunters and community surveillance groups. Muazu characterized this aggression as a desperate measure by the bandits to reclaim territory and undermine the security framework established by the Katsina State government.
Commitment to Community Security
Authorities have initiated clearing operations to recover weapons and equipment left by the fleeing criminals while intensifying surveillance to deter future attacks. Despite the win against banditry, the government expressed sorrow over the loss of five members of the hunting team who were tragically injured during a personal shopping trip amid the operation. Muazu has expressed condolences, acknowledging their sacrifice in the defense of the community.
He reassured residents of Guga and the surrounding regions that normalcy is gradually returning and reiterated the government’s dedication to collaborative security measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property across Katsina State.
