Federal officials revealed that prosecutors filed 114 cases against individuals accused of re-entering the United States illegally after being deported. Additionally, 175 people faced charges for illegal entry into the country. A prominent case during this operation was that of Rubicel Nunez-Sanchez, who faced criminal charges on July 20 for illegally transporting immigrants for commercial purposes. Border Patrol agents apprehended Nunez-Sanchez while he was driving a Ford F-150 near the U.S.-Mexico border in the San Rafael Valley, a known area for human smuggling activities.
Incidents During the Arrest
During the attempted immigration check, Nunez-Sanchez fled the scene, but Border Patrol agents eventually disabled his vehicle and took him into custody. Five passengers were identified as Mexican and Colombian nationals, all believed to be in the U.S. illegally, further complicating the situation for those involved.
Subsequent Arrests and Charges
Federal prosecutors also announced charges against Jose Raul Ahumada Lugo and Ronnie Ramirez Valenzuela following a July 21 traffic stop conducted by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities cited suspicious materials, including camouflage clothing, observed during the stop. All occupants of the vehicle were later confirmed to be Mexican nationals living in the U.S. illegally. In addition, Ramirez Valenzuela was charged with the re-entry of a deported alien, as he had previously been deported in August 2017.
