Nyesom Wike Urges Swift Funding for Abuja ISEX Road Project
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on the Federal Government to expedite the approval and release of funds needed to revive the lengthy-stalled Abuja ISEX road project. This infrastructure initiative is crucial for improving connectivity and reducing congestion in the capital.
Progress Possible with Timely Funding
During an inspection of the ISEX and Gaduwa road projects, Wike emphasized that the contractor has expressed confidence in completing a significant portion of the 10-kilometer ISEX road by the end of the year, provided that the funds earmarked in the national budget are released promptly.
Enhancing Transportation Corridors in the FCT
The ISEX road project is set to link the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway in Area 1/Apo with the Goodluck Jonathan Expressway at Galadimawa, creating a vital transportation corridor designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve travel efficiency within Abuja.
A Commitment to Completing Long-Standing Projects
Wike noted that this project, which was awarded in December 2014, stands among the oldest infrastructure initiatives within the FCT’s portfolio. He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to see through all viable projects initiated by the previous government, rather than letting them languish.

Continuing his discussions with the Minister of Finance, Wike affirmed the critical nature of this project for Abuja’s infrastructure evolution. He highlighted the importance of timely funding to ensure its completion, stating that considerable improvements lie ahead for the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike underscored President Tinubu’s directive that economically valuable infrastructure projects inherited from past administrations should remain a priority. While assessing the status of the Apo-Kalushi road project, Wike reported that it is nearing completion and will soon join the ranks of successfully executed inherited projects under the current administration. He emphasized the importance of completing ongoing projects rather than neglecting them, which has been a significant barrier to infrastructure development in the FCT.

Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress on the Gaduwa road project, praising the contractors for their swift mobilization following the project’s announcement during celebrations marking the Tinubu administration’s third anniversary. He assured residents that the FCT Administration would uphold its financial commitments to prevent delays and facilitate the timely implementation of essential projects.
