Mass Recruitment Initiative Launched in Enugu State Schools
Enugu State Governor Peter Mba has approved the recruitment of 6,580 qualified candidates for various educational, technical, and administrative positions in public primary and secondary schools. This hiring initiative will significantly enhance staffing at the state’s 267 Smart Green Schools.
The announcement was made through a job advertisement issued by Associate Professor Higinas Okigbe Banko, the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB).
In a vacancy notification released on Wednesday, the commission emphasized that this recruitment aligns with the state government’s broader strategy for education reform.
As part of his administration’s commitment to advancing the Smart Green Schools initiative, Governor Mba is focused on providing the necessary human resources to ensure quality education across Enugu State. The notification detailed that this hiring process will encompass multiple core and specialized roles.
A more detailed breakdown of the available positions indicates that 4,698 core subjects teachers are needed in Mathematics, English, Basic Science, Basic Technology, ICT, French, Igbo, and History. Additional vacancies include 520 digital librarians, 380 experiential learning innovators, 267 guidance counselors, 267 ICT staff, 267 laboratory attendants, 136 accountants, and 45 technicians.
Regarding educational and professional qualifications, ENSUBEB specifies that applicants for teaching roles must possess a Bachelor of Education degree, a Higher National Diploma combined with a Bachelor’s degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or a Nigerian Certificate in Education in a relevant subject area. Moreover, prospective teachers are required to register with the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria or provide proof of ongoing registration.
For non-teaching positions, requirements vary significantly, often necessitating degrees in specialized fields like library and information science, STEM, or psychology. Positions such as laboratory attendants, technicians, and ICT staff may also be filled by candidates holding an Ordinary National Diploma, trade exam certificates, or certificates from SSCE/WASSCE.
ENSUBEB has underscored the importance of having a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate for applicants with degrees or HNDs. All candidates must also demonstrate practical proficiency in information and communication technology (ICT) tools, a necessity across all roles.
Interested candidates are advised to submit formal applications, including a detailed resume and copies of necessary credentials, such as a birth certificate or age affidavit along with valid contact information. Applications can be sent either as hard copies to the ENSUBEB Executive Chairman’s Office in Enugu State or electronically as a single secured PDF file via email.
It is important to note that the application process is entirely free, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further screening and selection interviews. The deadline for submitting applications is set for Friday, August 14, 2026.
