Celine Boutier Clinches Victory at ShopRite LPGA
In an impressive comeback at the ShopRite LPGA on Sunday, France’s Celine Boutier overcame a four-shot deficit, securing a one-stroke victory over Thailand’s Arpichaya Yubol with a stellar 5-under 66. Ireland’s Lauren Walsh claimed third place after a strong performance.
Challenges on the Course
South Korean golfer Su Bing-joo, 22, who was pursuing his first LPGA Tour title, lost momentum after leading by four shots at the turn. He fell behind on the 13th hole, just before Boutier executed a remarkable 30-foot birdie putt to seize the lead.
Turning Point for Boutier
Boutier consistently exhibited precision in her shots and avoided major errors. Although she missed a 4-foot birdie putt on the final hole, her outstanding play throughout the tournament culminated in a total score of 9 under for the week.
Special Moments in Competition
Expressing her emotions after the victory, the 32-year-old Boutier reflected, “It’s definitely very special to have the chance to win today,” acknowledging that she had previously won this tournament five years ago.
Yubol’s Strong Finish
Arpichaya Yubol managed to recover from an earlier one-stroke penalty for exceeding her personal best time in the second round. She finished strongly with birdies on the final two holes, ending the day with a 66 and ultimately four strokes behind Boutier. This marked her second runner-up finish of the year.
Impressive Performances from Ireland
Walsh concluded the tournament in third place with a final-round 67, while Zhu was among four players tying for fourth. Notably, Ireland showcased its golfing talent with two players finishing in the top 10, including Leona Maguire, who tied for ninth place at 4 under.
Boutier’s Steady Rise
Boutier started the front nine with two consecutive birdies, propelling her to 7 under, which allowed her to share the lead after Zhu’s bogey on the eighth hole. Although Zhu briefly tied the match with a birdie on nine, she could not regain momentum in the subsequent holes.
Looking Ahead
With a total of seven career titles on the LPGA and 12 worldwide wins, Boutier has faced some challenges this year, achieving her best finish of tied for ninth place in ten events. She remarked on her recent improvement, saying, “I feel like my game has improved over the last few weeks.” With renewed confidence, she expressed her excitement about returning to the winner’s circle.
