NEMSA and NDPHC Collaborate to Enhance Electrical Standards in Nigeria
The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Authority (NEMSA) and the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) are intensifying their efforts to eliminate substandard electrical materials and equipment from Nigeria’s power sector. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance grid reliability and ensure the security of electrical infrastructure across the nation.
This collaborative effort was the focal point of discussions during a recent courtesy visit by NEMSA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Olusegun Adesayo, to the NDPHC headquarters in Abuja, where he met with NDPHC’s MD and CEO, Engr. Jennifer Adigije.
During the meeting, both organizations emphasized their shared commitment to ensuring that all materials, equipment, and engineering facilities utilized throughout the electricity value chain meet international standards and best practices. Adigije stressed the importance of developing durable infrastructure as Nigeria continues to face ongoing power challenges and infrastructure deficits.
She highlighted the NDPHC’s role as a pivotal institution within the power sector, responsible for overseeing electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. The organization is one of the largest public-sector investors in Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure, actively contributing to the expansion of key facilities such as transformers, substations, transmission lines, switchyards, and line bays across the country.
These assets are deemed vital national infrastructure and must adhere to rigorous technical and safety standards to ensure their efficiency, reliability, and sustainability over time. Adigije emphasized that the design of new power projects must align with international standards to withstand the test of time.
NEMSA’s regulatory oversight is critical for maintaining quality assurance and safety across the power industry. Adigije noted the importance of ongoing cooperation with NEMSA, particularly as Nigeria seeks to modernize its power grid and improve electricity supply to homes, industries, and businesses.
In his comments, Adesayo reaffirmed NEMSA’s dedication to implementing technical standards and ensuring compliance with safety regulations for electrical installations nationwide. He expressed that preventing the use of substandard materials and ensuring that all power projects meet approved specifications is fundamental to safeguarding lives and property. Enhanced collaboration between NEMSA and NDPHC could significantly bolster investor confidence in Nigeria’s power sector, especially in light of the federal government’s continuous reforms aimed at attracting investment and improving operational performance.
