Enid, a city with a population of about 50,000, reported that first responders were actively conducting emergency operations following the tornado’s impact. The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office stated there have been no reports of fatalities, with only minor injuries noted as they continue thorough searches of affected areas.

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has communicated with city officials regarding the situation. Vance Air Force Base, located southwest of Enid, is currently evaluating any damage it sustained during the storm. “Please join us in praying for the Enid community that was severely affected by tonight’s tornado,” Stitt urged on social media.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado was moving across southeastern Enid at approximately 8:40 p.m., leading to a tornado emergency declaration for parts of the city. Residents were under a tornado watch until 11 p.m., and officials urged the public to steer clear of the Gray Ridge area to facilitate quick access for emergency personnel.

Videos recorded in the area displayed a large black funnel cloud making contact with the ground. Local resident Justin Parrish, owner of a towing company, expressed surprise at the storm’s intensity, stating, “I got calm and then I went outside and I was shocked. Fortunately, we were not harmed.” Additionally, Chance Jones, a drummer with the rock band Hinder, documented the tornado while outside his hotel.

The National Weather Service reported tornadoes in Oklahoma, Iowa, and Kansas on Thursday, with hail damage recorded as large as tennis balls. In Kay County—northeast of Enid—Sheriff Steve Kelly shared that there were downed trees and power lines, along with damage to homes and structures. Senator James Lankford has also taken to social media to encourage safety among Oklahomans impacted by the storms, saying, “Praying for all Oklahomans affected by severe storms, damaging winds, and tornadoes tonight.”
