Kogi PDP Candidate Calls for Unity in Wake of Supreme Court Ruling
Kogi-born political figure and real estate entrepreneur, Hon. Muhammad Abdullahi, widely referred to as “Elephant,” has officially announced his candidacy for the Kogi East senatorial seat under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Abdullahi vows to offer dedicated service and effective representation to the constituents of Kogi East.
During a well-attended campaign event, Abdullahi, a native of Ampa Local Government Area, emphasized his commitment to a development-oriented agenda that prioritizes grassroots empowerment and inclusivity in governance. His platform is centered on fostering meaningful growth and advancement for the district.
In his address at the campaign’s closing ceremony, Abdullahi articulated his ambition to represent Kogi East in the National Assembly, highlighting his dedication to secure substantial development for the region. “I am dedicated to serving the people with integrity and vision for progress. Kogi East deserves quality representation, and I am prepared to deliver the tangible benefits of democracy,” he proclaimed.
He underlined that his political aspirations are the culmination of years spent in community service, noting his commitment to improving living standards across the district. “My focus isn’t solely political; it is about serving the community, making sacrifices, and ensuring sustainable development,” he added.
Renowned for his philanthropic efforts and grassroots activism, Abdullahi has gained significant traction through various community initiatives. His contributions range from installing electric wells to enhance drinking water access, sponsoring Hajj for faithful Muslims, providing scholarships for higher education students, to offering financial support to small-scale entrepreneurs.
He also articulated his legislative intentions, which include expanding access to education, creating economic opportunities for youth and women, and advancing critical infrastructure development. “The workforce deserves quality education, business empowerment, and essential infrastructure that enhances their daily lives; these are the priorities I aim to support,” he stated.
Abdullahi urged party members and voters to unite around his candidacy in pursuit of transparent leadership and equitable resource distribution. “I am prepared to serve with honesty and fairness. Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous Kogi East,” he affirmed.
His candidacy is poised to significantly influence the Kogi East senatorial election due to his robust grassroots connections, philanthropy, and substantial influence within the PDP. In conjunction with this, Cephas Ungak Lopsik, the PDP leader and gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State, emphasized the need for party unity and restraint following a recent Supreme Court ruling concerning the leadership contest.
Lopsik characterized the ruling as a pivotal constitutional moment necessitating maturity and discipline from party stakeholders, cautioning against any attempts to exploit the situation for personal or sectarian gains. He urged party members to remain patient as the official version of the judgment has yet to be released, warning against premature interpretations that could exacerbate divisions within the party.
He further requested acknowledgment of the current leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as legitimate while a thorough review of the Supreme Court ruling is conducted. “This is not a time for celebration; it’s a moment for unity, reconciliation, and a collective focus on our goals,” he stressed.
Lopsik expressed confidence in the PDP’s resilience, declaring that despite ongoing challenges, the party remains a formidable presence in Nigeria’s political arena. He encouraged members to stay committed as the party works towards rebuilding and repositioning itself for the future. He stressed the necessity of solidarity in order for the PDP to emerge stronger and more competitive in upcoming elections while navigating the complexities introduced by the Supreme Court’s recent intervention.
