New Road Construction to Boost Investment Opportunities in Nigeria’s Capital
President Bola Tinubu has announced that the construction of the seven-kilometer Tungan-Madaki-Zuba road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is poised to create new investment opportunities in sectors such as housing, education, healthcare, and industrial development.
Significance of the Madaki-Zuba Corridor
Tinubu made this statement during the road project’s inauguration ceremony in Abuja on Monday, where he was represented by House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas. He emphasized that this infrastructure development aligns with the vision of transforming the FCT into a national capital with seamlessly integrated satellite cities and gateway communities.
Alleviating Traffic and Enhancing Economic Activity
The President highlighted the strategic importance of the Madaki-Zuba corridor, stating it will alleviate congestion in the Abuja city center, offer alternative routes for commuters, and notably enhance economic activities along the Abuja-Kaduna-Northwest axis. He asserted that the new road sends a clear message to potential investors regarding the area’s accessibility for housing, schools, healthcare facilities, and industry.
Community Contributions Despite Challenges
Tinubu acknowledged that local communities along the corridor, including Tugan Madaki and Zuba, have made significant contributions to the economy through agriculture, trade, and other avenues, despite facing longstanding road connectivity challenges.
Improved Connectivity for Trade and Travel
The new road will directly link Tugan Madaki with the Abuja-Kaduna road, significantly improving the flow of goods and people while reducing travel times and operational costs. This development aims to enhance market access for local agricultural products and foster overall economic growth.
FCT Administration’s Broader Infrastructure Strategy
According to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, this project is part of a more extensive infrastructure initiative designed to connect satellite cities and regional councils with the city center. He pointed out that the project was conceived in response to requests from the Chairman of the Gwagwalada Regional Council, emphasizing the need for a direct link to ease commuting challenges faced by residents.
Prospects for Enhanced Economic Opportunities
Once completed, residents of Zuba and its surroundings will enjoy improved connectivity to Abuja and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, eliminating the need for lengthy detours through Gwagwalada. Wike has urged for the project to be completed and handed over by December to facilitate accelerated infrastructure development across the territory. FCT Minister of State Mariya Mahmood further stated that this road will expand economic opportunities for underserved communities by improving connectivity and attracting new investments.
Linking Communities and Opening New Routes
Richard Doda, Acting Director-General of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), noted that the road would connect Bill Clinton Drive with the Federal Highway A2 (Kaduna-Abuja-Lokoja Expressway) via Zuba. He mentioned that it would also provide improved access to nearby communities, including Tungan Wakili, Angwan Ashea, Tungan Java, Tungan Nasara, Tungan Sam, Ammawa, and Java. This new link is expected to create an alternative travel route for individuals heading to the airport from Zuba, Kaduna, and Kogi states while simultaneously opening up agricultural regions and promoting the safety and development of the burgeoning metropolitan area within the FCT.
