Leadership Crisis Intensifies in Anambra APC
The leadership crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has escalated, as the faction led by Ifeanyi Osegbo is refusing to engage with the five-member fact-finding committee established by the national leadership of the party. This committee aims to address the ongoing turmoil within the state’s APC.
Osegbo Faction Challenges Committee’s Legitimacy
The Osegbo faction has declined to participate in the committee’s meetings, expressing concerns over its composition and rejecting its authority. Despite this, supporters of provincial chairperson Emma Anosike are rallying behind the committee, viewing its formation as a positive initiative designed to reconcile the varying interests within the party.
Stakeholders Show Support for Reconciliation Efforts
Members of the party have praised Mr. Emeka Okafor, the Deputy Secretary of the APC National Organizing Committee, for his proactive leadership in fostering peace and rebuilding unity within the party. This initiative aims to harmonize interests and ensure a cohesive approach moving forward.
Legal Challenges Loom as Factions Clash
Notably, the Osegbo faction had previously secured a court order against the party’s national executive. In response, the APC’s national leadership has sought a stay of execution and has filed an appeal challenging the court’s ruling.
Committee’s Mandate Acknowledged by Party Members
Mike Ejeji, a representative of the Anambra APC stakeholders, characterized the formation of the committee as a significant move towards resolving internal disputes. Ejeji emphasized that when conflicts arise, it is essential for the party’s leadership to intervene by forming investigative committees to identify the underlying issues and propose viable solutions.
Calls for Fairness and Transparency in Committee Operations
Along with other party officials, Ejeji expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to act impartially and transparently. He urged members to focus on their responsibilities and work towards fostering peace within the party. Ejeji dismissed early criticisms regarding the committee’s composition, advocating for patience until its mandate is fulfilled.
Commission Engages with Party Members
Chairman of the Fact-Finding Commission, Azuka Okwosa, reported that the committee has successfully engaged with about 90 percent of party officials and members across the state, yielding promising results from consultations. He reassured members that while some may remain skeptical, the large majority supports the committee’s objectives.
Osebo’s Faction Remains Defiant
Despite ongoing discussions, Osebo, the faction’s chairman, reiterated that his group would not participate in the committee’s activities due to a lack of confidence in its legitimacy. He stated, “We have completely distanced ourselves from the commission and all its endeavors,” reinforcing the faction’s position of non-cooperation amid the party’s efforts to promote unity.
