Military Operation Rescues 48 Kidnapped Victims in Zamfara State
Troops from the Operation Funsan Yamma North West Joint Task Force successfully rescued 48 individuals kidnapped during a terrorist attack on Magami village in Zamfara State’s Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. The military disclosed these developments in a statement released on Sunday by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the media and information officer for Operation Funsan Yamma.
The rescue operation commenced early Saturday morning after troops received an urgent distress call indicating that heavily armed terrorists had infiltrated the area. The statement outlined the attack, noting that it took place during the early hours of July 26, 2026, and highlighted the swift response of the joint task force.
The military reported that the terrorists struck the village on approximately 40 motorcycles, rounding up numerous residents with the intent to abduct them. The statement elaborated, explaining that a faction of the terrorists remained on the village’s outskirts while others gathered villagers for transport away from their homes.
Upon reaching the scene, the troops engaged in an intense firefight with the attackers, compelling them to flee and abandon their captives. The swift and decisive military action resulted in the successful rescue of all 48 individuals who had been taken hostage.
Tragically, the operation also saw one civilian casualty, while two others sustained gunshot wounds. These injured individuals were promptly transported to Kaura Namoda General Hospital for medical treatment. The military’s statement expressed condolences for the loss and confirmed that the injured are receiving necessary care.
Following the rescue, the troops conducted extensive patrols throughout the area in an effort to deter any potential further attacks. The theater command praised the soldiers for their exceptional professionalism and underscored their ongoing commitment to restoring security across the Northwest region.
In this context, the military urged the public to continue providing timely and reliable information to security agencies, emphasizing the collective effort required to combat terrorism in the Northwest of Nigeria. Zamfara State remains a focal point for banditry and mass kidnappings, despite ongoing military operations designed to dismantle insurgent strongholds.
Operation Funsan Yamma is part of a series of military initiatives aimed at addressing terrorism, robbery, and other violent crimes in the North West, with increased offensive actions against criminal organizations being prioritized in recent months.
