Asharami Energy Achieves Milestone in Workplace Safety at OML-148 Operations
Asharami Energy Limited (AEL), the upstream exploration and production arm of Sahara, has proudly reached six million zero lost time incidents (LTIs) in its OML-148 operations. This achievement underscores the company’s dedication to operational excellence and leadership in safety as it aspires to produce 350,000 barrels of oil per day by 2030.
Lost time incidents are a crucial metric for evaluating workplace safety, reflecting injuries that lead to employee absence. The milestone illustrates Asharami Energy’s capability to execute complex operations safely, aligning with Sahara’s Beyond XXX vision. This vision aims to usher in a new era of impact, innovation, and sustainable growth, building on three decades of responsible corporate heritage.
Leste Aihevba, Chief Technology Officer at Asharami Energy, emphasized that operational excellence begins with the protection of employees, stakeholders, and local communities. As the company progresses towards its ambitious oil production targets, Aihevba noted that this culture of safety will remain foundational in delivering projects effectively and responsibly.
Each LTI-free man-hour represents a culmination of safe choices, discipline, and a shared commitment to a zero-risk safety culture, Aihevba added. He emphasized that this culture will guide the company as it seeks new growth opportunities, affirming that a zero-incident workplace is attainable.
Vincent Uwadileke, Asset Manager for Nigeria Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), commended Energized Resources Limited (ERL) for its achievement. He described it as a testament to the discipline and vigilance within the organization and urged them to aim for seven million LTI-free man-hours by the following year.
Ade Odunsi, Executive Director of Sahara Upstream, pointed to this milestone as a reflection of Sahara’s commitment to a safety-first agenda. According to Odunsi, sustainable growth is only achievable when safety is ingrained in every decision, process, and operation. He praised the collective efforts of employees, contractors, regulators, and host communities, asserting that such achievements are the result of consistent dedication to safe practices.
The celebration for this remarkable achievement included the unveiling of the “6 Million Person Hours LTI-Free Safety Plaque.” The event was led by Sahara Directors Temitope Shonubi, Adedeji Odunsi, and Moroti Adedoyin Adeyinka, alongside NUIMS Representatives Vincent Uwadileke and Jeffrey Jaiyola.
Shonubi remarked on the unique nature of upstream operations, underscoring the responsibility to not only extract resources but to do so in a safe and sustainable manner. He urged a shift from purely technical production to a more comprehensive techno-commercial approach that ensures investments yield sustainable value while adhering to HSSE best practices.
Bethel Obioma, Head of Corporate Communications for Sahara Group Limited, highlighted the vital role that effective communication plays in nurturing a safety culture. She asserted that true safety impacts everyone when there is a mutual understanding and commitment to its principles. Consistent messaging about safety enhances accountability and transforms it from mere compliance into a shared responsibility.
This achievement further cements Asharami Energy’s position as a conscientious energy partner, reinforcing the importance of safety as a core pillar of Sahara’s Beyond XXX vision, as well as its dedication to safe and sustainable operational practices.
