Ekerin’s Death and Police Investigation
Despite being treated at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, Ekerin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on May 30. In their statement, the police detailed how officers discovered a 41-year-old man with significant head injuries, emphasizing the urgent medical response provided at the scene.

Maxwell Oguanaya, a resident of Eastfield Road in Enfield, was arrested on June 4 and subsequently charged the following day. He made his first appearance at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on June 5 and has been remanded in custody as the case moves forward, with a subsequent court date set for June 9.
Second Arrest in Connection with Ekerin’s Death
In addition to Oguanaya, a second man, aged 34, was also arrested on June 5 in connection with the murder. He remains in police custody as investigations continue. However, police have yet to disclose the specific circumstances surrounding the altercation that led to Ekerin’s tragic demise.
Family Seeks Support Amidst Tragedy
Kehinde Ekerin, Taiwo’s younger brother, confirmed that Taiwo was the victim of an unprovoked attack while out at night. The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising funds for funeral expenses, highlighting their sorrow and the profound impact of Taiwo’s loss on their lives.
Community Responds to Loss
In the appeal, the family described Taiwo Ekerin as a beloved father, son, brother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched many. They emphasized how his death has left an immense void in the lives of all who knew him. At the time of this report, the GoFundMe page had raised £3,710 toward their £10,000 goal, reflecting the community’s effort to support them during this difficult time.
The case comes on the heels of another tragic incident reported earlier, involving the fatal stabbing of Nigerian student Uchenna Okree in Norwich, where a Congolese man was found guilty of murder. These incidents have renewed discussions on safety and violence in public spaces across the UK.
