In a troubling escalation of violence, hundreds of armed looters have attempted to overpower soldiers and police forces for several hours today in a raid targeting a computer village located in Ikeja. The situation has raised alarms regarding public safety and the effectiveness of current security protocols in the area.
Troops Neutralize Boko Haram Attack in Yobe State
Meanwhile, troops from Operation Joint Task Force Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully thwarted a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and ISWAP militants on the 27 Brigade Headquarters in Buni Gari, Yobe State, resulting in the death of 50 insurgents. This incident occurred during the early hours of May 8, 2026, according to a statement from Media Information Officer Lt. Col. Sani Uba.
Military Forces Demonstrate Combat Superiority
Lt. Col. Uba reported that the OPHK forces exhibited overwhelming combat superiority, effectively suppressing a large-scale, coordinated assault by the terrorists. The attack began around 2 a.m. as militants advanced from multiple directions, but they encountered fierce resistance from military personnel, who utilized tactical strategies and superior firepower to maintain their position.
Significant Losses Inflicted on Insurgents
As the battle unfolded, the terrorists faced heavy losses, with over 50 militants neutralized and significant quantities of arms and ammunition recovered from the remnants of the attacking force. Lt. Col. Uba highlighted that, under intense resistance, the attackers retreated in disarray, leaving behind blood trails and casualties along their escape route.
Recovery of Militant Bodies and Additional Intelligence
Following the operation, initial assessments confirmed the recovery of 10 terrorist bodies in the immediate area, while human intelligence reports indicated that over 20 additional bodies were scattered in surrounding locations such as Gashua, Azare, and Kamya. This further emphasizes the substantial defeat inflicted on the attackers.
Air Support Enhances Ground Operation Success
In a well-coordinated air-ground operation, precision airstrikes targeted identified terrorist positions and further neutralized an estimated 20 insurgents attempting to flee. Subsequent intelligence gathering revealed many more casualties along the militants’ retreat path, underscoring the magnitude of their losses during this confrontation.
Equipment and Casualties from the Engagement
During the engagement, military forces recovered a significant arsenal, including eight AK-47 rifles, two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, and various ammunition. Notably, some military equipment sustained minimal damage despite the intensity of the fighting. All injured soldiers are reported to be in stable condition and receiving necessary medical treatment.
