China Showcases Agricultural Advances to African Journalists
On Wednesday, China shared its insights into technology-driven agriculture, rural revitalization, and poverty alleviation with a group of African journalists visiting the Mining Town and the Great Wall Flower Community in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. This visit was part of an international seminar organized by the International Department of the Communist Party of China, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The seminar centered on “Promoting the Building of a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future through the Four Seasons in a New Era: The Responsibility of the Media.” It brought together media professionals from across Africa to exchange knowledge on development, governance, and the cooperative ties between China and Africa.
Exploring Modern Agricultural Practices in Minning Town
During their visit to Minning Town, Yongning County, the delegation toured the smart industrial park operated by Ningxia Xiaoming Agricultural and Pasture Co., Ltd. Here, visitors learned how the integration of modern agricultural techniques, industrial investment, and technological innovation are driving rural growth and job creation.
Ningxia Xiaoming is a state-owned high-tech company listed on China’s ChiNext market, specializing in poultry farming, hatchery operations, feed production, and technical services within a comprehensive agricultural value chain. Liu Meiling, the company’s president, revealed that it accounts for nearly 15% of China’s commercial egg-laying chick market.
With an investment exceeding 500 million yuan in Minning Town, the company has developed modern breeding facilities, smart agricultural parks, and essential infrastructure, generating more than 400 jobs for local residents, many of whom are families that have relocated. This investment has also stimulated growth in sectors such as logistics, crop production, and feed processing.
The Role of E-commerce in Enhancing Local Economies
The delegation subsequently visited the Minning Hemei e-commerce workshop, where local residents are empowered to market their agricultural products through digital platforms, thereby enhancing their access to both domestic and international markets. Xu Meija, the workshop’s director, articulated how e-commerce has emerged as a catalyst for rural entrepreneurship by directly connecting farmers and small businesses with consumers, leading to new income opportunities.
She elaborated that the workshop plans to host livestream sessions to showcase various products, aimed at engaging customers and driving orders. Collaborations with various online shopping and delivery platforms are set to broaden the market reach for these local products.
Community Initiatives Focused on Service Accessibility
Han Wei, deputy secretary of the Great Wall Flower Garden Socialist Party Committee, underscored the importance of bringing essential services closer to residents. The model they employ aims to create a supportive environment where individuals can access medical care, social activities, and livelihood opportunities within their communities.
Han explained that their communities offer a spectrum of services, including medical assistance, cultural activities, aged care, and support for vulnerable populations. The facility features a clinic for basic healthcare, an activity center for social interaction, and platforms promoting employment and community participation.
Moreover, the community operates affordable service points, which include volunteer-supported beauty services and supermarkets that assist in poverty alleviation initiatives. These services not only cater to daily needs but also enhance the quality of life for residents and foster stronger neighborhood relationships.
NAN reports that this tour has provided valuable insights into China’s approach to rural revitalization through agriculture, technology, and community-oriented development. Additionally, the program aims to bolster exchanges between Chinese and African media experts on topics such as governance, development cooperation, and media collaboration.
