CFRPA Seeks Clarification on Certificates Linked to President Tinubu
The Center for Reform and Public Advocacy (CFRPA), a prominent civil society organization, has reached out to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for clarification regarding the academic and NYSC certificates associated with President Bola Tinubu.
Questions Raised Following CSU’s Disclosure
In a communication authored by Kalu Kalu Agu, head of legal affairs for CFRPA, the organization has requested that INEC clarify the legal implications surrounding issues arising from President Tinubu’s academic records, which were recently released by Chicago State University (CSU) following a 2023 U.S. court order.
Legal Proceedings Prompting Certificate Review
This court order was the result of a petition filed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with Judge Nancy L. Maldonado in case number 23 CV 05099, which compelled CSU to disclose its records on Tinubu. The CFRPA asserts that the documents revealed within what they refer to as “Evidence CSU” indicate discrepancies related to the admissions process, particularly concerning claims about the institutions attended and details of Tinubu’s academic background.
Concerns Over NYSC Discharge Certificate
The CFRPA also referenced a previous letter sent to the NYSC Commissioner on September 22, 2025, in which it sought verification of a discharge certificate allegedly issued under the name Bola A. Tinubu. In that correspondence, the organization indicated that it might consider legal action should these issues remain unresolved.
Implications for Future Elections
In its letter to INEC, CFRPA expressed the need for clarification on how these issues could impact President Tinubu’s eligibility for upcoming elections, particularly focusing on the 2027 presidential race. The organization emphasized the necessity of resolving these concerns to maintain electoral integrity.
Call for NYSC Disclaimer
The letter went on to highlight that CFRPA had previously contacted the Director-General of the NYSC and the Secretary to the Government, urging the NYSC to issue a disclaimer regarding what they allege is a fraudulent NYSC discharge certificate presented as authentic by Tinubu. This plea was accompanied by documentation marked as “Letter of Evidence.”
Legal Accountability and Future Actions
In light of these allegations, CFRPA urged INEC and NYSC to publicly articulate their stances on the matters raised, asserting that such disclosure would help address public concerns and offer legal clarity ahead of future electoral processes. At the time of publication, neither INEC nor NYSC had publicly responded to CFRPA’s inquiries.
