President Tinubu Inaugurates Enhanced Road Infrastructure in Abuja
Desi Elmoye reports from Abuja
On Monday, President Bola Tinubu officially inaugurated the newly rehabilitated and expanded road connecting Kalu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction. This development is a significant addition to other nearby roads, reflecting the administration’s commitment to urban infrastructure improvement.
This inauguration follows just a week after the president launched a water supply network in the same district, showcasing his administration’s focus on enhancing essential services for citizens.
The president, represented by Vice President Kassim Shettima, emphasized that the road projects and surrounding infrastructure developments are tangible manifestations of his commitment to alleviating urban congestion and elevating the living standards of Nigerians.
Upon taking office in 2023, President Tinubu recognized the necessity for real development to reach where people live and work. He highlighted that the new and improved roads in the Karu Corridor, a critical route connecting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with neighboring states, had been plagued by severe traffic congestion, which negatively impacted productivity and living conditions for residents.
Tinubu remarked that the completed projects have notably reduced travel times, eliminated frustrating bottlenecks, and provided a conducive environment for businesses to thrive in this densely populated region. He expressed the importance of prioritizing safety in the road network, stating that modern, solar-powered streetlights have been installed to enhance visibility, decrease nighttime crime, and ensure safer navigation for motorists.
The president attributed the rapid transformation of Abuja to the dedicated oversight of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, praising his administration’s aggressive pursuit of the Urban Renewal Master Plan. Tinubu stated that such initiatives highlight the government’s philosophy of ensuring that regional wealth translates into practical benefits for all socio-economic classes.
Additionally, he commended Abdulwal Nigeria Limited, the contracting firm responsible for the road improvements, for delivering quality work that aligns with international standards. The president called upon local leaders, including traditional rulers, market women, and youth representatives, to take ownership of the roads by preventing vandalism and roadside dumping, which can obstruct drainage systems and compromise community safety.
Earlier, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike remarked on the unprecedented support from President Tinubu for the FCT’s development, underscoring the administration’s dedication to enhancing the happiness and well-being of the populace. He assured residents that the momentum of development would continue, recognizing the commitment of contractors working on infrastructure projects in the area to align with the federal agenda for nationwide improvement.
Hon. Zulkiful Abdulkadir, the Satellite Urban Development Department (STDD) FCT Coordinator, provided insights into the project, emphasizing the need to enhance infrastructure conditions in satellite towns. He noted that developments like the installation of solar-powered streetlights, the construction of drainage channels, and the creation of footpaths are essential for boosting the economic and social vitality of Kalu town, the largest satellite area in the FCT.
