Ekiti State Council Approves Major Infrastructure and Development Projects
On Monday, the Ekiti State Executive Council convened for its fifth meeting of 2026, where it agreed to initiate projects and policy measures totaling N17.18 billion. These initiatives aim to enhance infrastructure, improve power supply, bolster public safety, advance digital governance, and foster socio-economic development throughout the state, according to a statement from State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Rt. Johnson.
Investment in Key Road Projects
Of the total approved budget, N14.31 billion is earmarked for two significant road projects. This includes N12.58 billion allocated for the reconstruction of the 18.83-kilometre Ilawe-Elijyan-Ikogosi road and N1.73 billion for the construction of a 2.24-kilometre road connecting the Spotless Assembly of God and Ola Oluwa Islamic Grammar School in Ado Ekiti. These improvements are expected to significantly enhance connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods and people, while also promoting tourism around the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort.
Enhancing Rural Infrastructure
The council also approved N2.063 billion for refurbishing four Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) roads, increasing asphalt thickness from 30mm to 40mm. The projects include the Ijero-Epe-Araromi-Ilopola road, Ikore-Isaba-Ikoyi-Igbemo road, Ido-Ipere-Ildun road, and Agbado-Ijisun-Ipore-Ise road. This upgrade is aimed at prolonging the lifespan of these key transportation routes, which are vital for agricultural and economic activities in rural areas.
Investment in Power Infrastructure
To improve the state’s power infrastructure, the council committed N337.66 million to four strategic power projects. Planned enhancements include upgrading transformers in the Oke Oniyo area and at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, as well as extending power supply to the Command Academy in Ikogosi. Additionally, part of the Ado-Ilawe 33KV power grid will be relocated to bolster reliability in surrounding communities.
Street Lighting Enhancement
In a bid to enhance public safety, N381.65 million was allocated for the installation of solar-powered street lights in three key areas: Awedele Community, GRA 3rd Extension, and Igiri Giri Junction, as well as along the road leading to the new Ado-Ekiti Local Government Secretariat. This initiative, which is expected to be completed within three months by the Ekiti State Electricity Board, aims to beautify the environment while promoting safety and commercial activities.
Advancing Digital Governance
To strengthen digital governance in the water sector, the council allocated N74.96 million for the development of the Ekiti State Water and Sanitation Regulatory Data Management System (EK-WASREDAMS). This system, supported by the World Bank under the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SURWASH) program, will automate regulatory processes, monitor water quality, and facilitate consumer interactions through a digital platform. The project, contracted to Forthwill Nigeria Limited, is also slated for completion within three months.
Leadership and Business Reforms
The Executive Council appointed Prince Fagbai Feysayo Ige as the new Olumojo of Imojo-Ekiti, fulfilling all required statutory and traditional formalities. Additionally, the council ratified the 2025 Business Enabling Reform Action Plan (BERAP) progress report. This initiative, part of the World Bank-supported State Action on Doing Business Enabling Reform (SABRE) program, aims to improve the ease of doing business in Ekiti State. An interagency committee has also been established to enhance the deployment and communication of fiber optics across the state, further deepening digital infrastructure and attracting private sector investment.
