Tragedy Strikes Community as Woman Found Dead in Badagry, Lagos State
Residents of Oke-Egan in the Irogbo-Eremi area of Badagry, Lagos State, were left reeling on Friday after the lifeless body of Victoria Adegoke, a woman from the Zodiac tribe, was discovered abandoned in a nearby bush.
According to local sources, Punch Metro learned on Sunday that Adegoke was found naked, with indications suggesting she may have been raped and strangled prior to being dragged into the underbrush.
An image obtained by Punch Metro on Sunday revealed marks on the victim’s wrists, suggesting that her assailant had tied her hands before the attack.
A community leader, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident, stated that Adegoke, believed to be in her 60s and a grandmother, was discovered at approximately 6:10 a.m. on Friday.
The leader explained that Adegoke was affiliated with the Joy of Christ Ministries, known locally as Ayo Jesu Church. Sources indicated that she was ambushed by a group of thugs while returning home earlier that day.
“She is an acquaintance of mine. Her daughter resides abroad,” the community leader shared. “Adegoke had attended church last Tuesday for a program that concluded four days ago. She was staying with her brother nearby and was headed home around 6 a.m. when she was attacked.”
Residents recounted that the assailants not only stripped her of her clothing and underwear but also strangled her and stole her cell phone. A bank card and her Bible were reportedly left at the scene. Another local, who identified himself only as Adeola, expressed his shock, questioning the brutality inflicted upon an elderly woman.
“She was believed to be between 65 and 68 years old. A passerby found her body in the bushes and alerted the Irogbo Elemi police station,” he added. “The authorities are aware of the situation and should be able to track down the perpetrator through the victim’s stolen mobile phone.”
Another community member, who also requested anonymity due to safety concerns, noted that the area has a longstanding reputation for violent crimes. “This community, situated along the border of Lagos and Ogun states, is notorious for criminal activity. Sadly, this isn’t the first time such an incident has occurred—it’s actually the fourth similar case in this area,” he remarked.
When contacted on Sunday, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, did not respond to calls or messages before this article went to press. This troubling incident is part of a broader pattern of violence in Badagry; in November 2025, for example, the body of an unidentified man was found in front of a gas station in the Sema district, as reported by CityMood Badagry, a local social media news platform.
