Akwa Ibom Governor Recognizes Nigerian Air Force’s Role in Strengthening Security
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has praised the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for enhancing its operational presence in the region. He emphasized that this development has significantly bolstered security, increased investor confidence, and contributed to economic stability.
Eno’s remarks came during a visit by Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Aneke to Akwa Ibom, where he inspected key facilities and activities associated with the newly established 309 Composite Air Group in Eket. The governor noted that this advancement represents a pivotal security milestone for both the state and the entire Niger Delta region.
Impact of the New Air Force Installation on Regional Security
The establishment and operation of the 309 Complex Group in Eket, according to Eno, are set to provide crucial strategic benefits in deterring crime, safeguarding important national infrastructure, and promoting stability throughout Akwa Ibom State and beyond.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the NAF, Eno pointed out that security is a cornerstone of the state’s development agenda. “Security is the foundation of economic development. We will continue to work closely with all security agencies to ensure that Akwa Ibom remains one of the safest states in Nigeria,” he stated.
Growing Economic Activity Amid Enhanced Security Measures
Governor Eno also highlighted that the improvements in security infrastructure have already led to increased economic activities and a surge in investor confidence within the state. This renewed confidence is vital for fostering a thriving business environment.
Nigerian Air Force Leadership Commends Collaboration
During the event, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Aneke expressed appreciation for the state government’s support in expediting the establishment of the 309 Complex Group. He described it as a strategic asset crucial for national security operations.
“We are committed to leveraging this platform to deliver decisive air power that supports national security objectives and protects critical economic assets central to Nigeria’s prosperity,” Aneke remarked, underscoring the unit’s role in intelligence gathering, surveillance, and rapid response operations across the region.
Promoting Partnerships for Continued Security Gains
During his visit, Aneke also engaged with traditional leaders, including the Supreme Ruler of Eket, Edidem Charles D. Abia. The Royal Leader stressed the necessity of strong civil-military cooperation in sustaining the security advancements made so far. “Military-to-military cooperation remains essential to maintaining the security gains we have recorded,” he remarked.
Air Officer Commanding the Mobile Command, Mr. Minnesota Onyebashi, assured attendees that the 309 Composite Group is progressively enhancing its operational capabilities. “The force is dedicated to professionalism, discipline, and mission effectiveness in support of national security and economic stability,” he confirmed.
The 309 Composite Group in Eket is poised to advance surveillance, rapid deployment, and protection of critical infrastructure throughout Akwa Ibom State and the surrounding areas, further reinforcing ongoing security operations in the Niger Delta.
