Nigeria Enhances Aviation Infrastructure with Major Upgrades
The Nigerian government has initiated a significant renovation and upgrade of the Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo Domestic Terminal at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA). This project is accompanied by the approval of N46 billion allocated for the repaving and reconstruction of the airport’s second runway, all part of a broader initiative to modernize the nation’s aviation infrastructure.
Minister Highlights Strategic Importance of Kano Airport
Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, presided over the commissioning of these improvements on Tuesday. He emphasized that these endeavors align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s New Hope Agenda, which aims to elevate critical aviation facilities, enhance passenger experiences, and position Nigerian airports to meet global standards.
Investment to Bolster Regional Connectivity and Commerce
Describing Kano as the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria, Keyamo acknowledged the airport’s strategic role as a gateway that demands considerable investment to boost trade, commerce, and regional connectivity.
Significant Funding Approved for Upgrades
Keyamo revealed that the President had sanctioned a total of N46 billion for the second runway’s resurfacing and renovation. He reiterated that this capital injection would markedly enhance operational efficiency, allowing Kano Airport to compete more effectively with leading international airports.
Further Developments in Airport Infrastructure
In addition to the terminal renovations, Keyamo announced that work has already begun on upgrading the airport’s Hajj terminal, with contractors mobilized on-site. He expressed optimism about the project’s progress, indicating a commitment to improving facilities further.

Abdullahi Umaru Ganduje, Chairman of the FAAN Board of Directors, commended President Tinubu and Minister Keyamo for prioritizing aviation infrastructure investments in Kano.
