Former Officials to Face Corruption Charges in Abuja
Chief Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Science and Technology, and Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the former Executive Director of the now-defunct Presidential Promotion of Foreign Intervention Council (PFIPC), are set to appear in court in Abuja. Mr. Nnaji’s arraignment by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) is scheduled for Monday, while Mr. Adeyemi will face the Nigeria Police Force in court on Tuesday.
Nnaji Resigns Amid Forgery Claims
Nnaji has stepped down from his position following serious allegations of certificate forgery. He is accused of fabricating a degree certificate allegedly issued by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), along with a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate. These claims have tarnished his reputation and raised questions about his professional integrity.
Indictment Filed Against Adeyemi
In a parallel development, the police have indicted Adeyemi and two accomplices on eight counts, including forgery and impersonation. This indictment, under case number FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was filed by Police Prosecutor Wisdom Madaki on November 27, 2025. Notably, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, is listed as a prosecution witness in this case.
Witnesses and Evidence Gathered
The investigation has included testimonies from various civil servants, such as Paul Emmanuel and Jeremiah Imohede, along with Deputy Superintendent of Police who was involved in the case. This extensive network of witnesses aims to solidify the prosecution’s case against Adeyemi and his alleged co-conspirators.
Rescheduled Court Date for Adeyemi
Mr. Adeyemi’s arraignment has been advanced to July 14, 2026, moving up from the previously announced date of July 27. This adjustment follows the conclusion of the police investigation and signals a swift move toward judicial proceedings in this high-profile case.
Investigation Origins and Arrest Details
The investigation into Adeyemi’s activities was initiated after a petition from Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila on October 17, 2025, calling for an inquiry into suspected forgery related to appointment letters purportedly from the President’s office. Following this, Adeyemi was apprehended in his office at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, on October 27, 2025.
Critical Findings from the Investigation
According to Mr. Onanuga, the Special Assistant to the President on Intelligence and Strategy, police uncovered substantial evidence during their investigation, including important documents from both Adeyemi’s office and residence. Notably, it was discovered that the institutions he claimed to represent were entirely fictitious. Additionally, Adeyemi allegedly operated 34 bank accounts, several of which were associated with these non-existent entities.
Charges and Public Impact
The police investigation concluded that Adeyemi’s actions constituted serious offenses, including criminal forgery and impersonation. These activities have significant implications, not only undermining the integrity of the President’s office but also damaging public trust. In a recent statement, Mr. Onanuga indicated that Adeyemi had made claims about being appointed as head of a nonexistent agency, which contradicts previous statements to police during interrogation, further complicating his case.
