Francesco Molinari Set to Rejoin Team Europe for 2027 Ryder Cup
Francesco Molinari has readily accepted the opportunity to join Luke Donald’s backroom team once again for the upcoming 2027 Ryder Cup, expressing his aspirations to captain Team Europe in the future. Molinari will be officially introduced as Donald’s second vice-captain during a live announcement on Sky Sports next September, coinciding with the 100th Anniversary Tournament, as Team Europe aims for a historic third consecutive victory over the USA.
Joining Molinari in the backroom team at Adare Manor is his brother, Edoardo Molinari, who previously served as vice-captain during Team Europe’s victories in 2023 at Marco Simone and 2025 at Bethpage Black.
Molinari Enthusiastic About Team Dynamics
In a recent interview on the Sky Sports Golf podcast, Molinari described his decision to rejoin the team as straightforward, sparked by a swift phone call. He expressed his excitement and honor at the opportunity to work alongside Donald and Edoardo once more, commending both for their exceptional contributions to the team.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Luke for the past four years, and he has truly excelled in his role as captain. Edoardo has also proven to be a valuable asset, and I’m thrilled to have him with us,” Molinari stated.
Leadership Praise for Luke Donald
Donald has earned accolades as one of the greatest captains in European Ryder Cup history after steering the team to a remarkable 15-13 victory in New York last September. His leadership has particularly impressed Molinari, who appreciates Donald’s inclusive approach to decision-making. “He seeks input from all of us, gathering diverse perspectives before settling on a course of action, ensuring we leave no stone unturned in helping our players excel,” he noted.
Reflecting on Donald’s growth as a leader, Molinari remarked on his improved communication skills with both players and the media, attributing this evolution to Donald’s dedication to his role. “His commitment mirrors the drive he exhibited as a player, a quality that propelled him to the top of the world rankings,” he added.
Molinari’s Aspirations for Captaincy
As Donald prepares for what could be his third consecutive Ryder Cup, Molinari looks ahead to potential future leadership roles. With a possible 2029 Ryder Cup planned for Hazeltine National, he expressed a willingness to take on the captaincy if selected. “If the opportunity arises, I would wholeheartedly accept it. I’m eager to help the team in any capacity,” he stated.
While acknowledging the competitive landscape of potential candidates, Molinari affirmed his readiness to step in whenever needed. “I’m happy to contribute, and I hope to be considered a strong contender in the future,” he concluded.
