Frank Lampard Celebrates Promotion with Coventry City
Emotion surged as Frank Lampard expressed his pride following Coventry City’s promotion to the Premier League, an achievement he described as “right around the corner” and one of the highlights of his career. Bobby Thomas’ late equalizer secured a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers, marking Coventry’s return to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years.
This promotion also represents a significant milestone for Lampard, who achieved this feat for the first time as a manager. He compared this accomplishment to his previous victories in the Premier League and Champions League as a player.
Lampard Reflects on the Journey
In an interview with Sky Sports, Lampard shared his pride in his team’s efforts: “I’m proud of myself, my staff, and the players,” he remarked. He recalled the early days of his tenure when he, his staff, and the squad began their journey from humble beginnings just 15 months ago. “We arrived in a personnel carrier, stepping into the unknown,” he added.
Lampard highlighted the dedication of the players and their connection with the fan base. “What I was able to achieve is just for me. I was lucky to be part of a great Chelsea team. Achieving this now, in these circumstances, with this club, is overwhelming,” he stated, acknowledging the players’ hard work and their capacity to elevate their game.

Lampard recognized the club’s history, stating, “I knew Coventry was a former Premier League team, and I also understood the significance it holds in the city. The players have achieved something truly noteworthy.”
Acknowledging the Team’s Improvement
Reflecting on the team’s growth over the past year, he commended their journey from 17th place in the league to a position of automatic promotion as a non-parachute team. “The boys have listened, trained hard, and performed remarkably well,” he noted. “This league is incredibly challenging, and what they have accomplished is unique and special.”
He emphasized the difficulty of the Championship, stating that even teams facing relegation have talented squads, making it increasingly tough for all. The players’ effort led to an extraordinary achievement, earning them the right to celebrate.
Promotion Exceeded Expectations
Coventry City last played in the Premier League back in 2001 before their relegation. Following a challenging period that saw the club drop to League Two in 2017, they mounted a resurgence under Lampard, culminating in this season’s promotion with three games to spare.
“Automatic promotion was not initially in our plans,” Lampard revealed. Reflecting on their strategy, he remarked on the discussions held prior to the season about potential playoff positions. The team has not only reached their goal but has excelled, standing strong with three games remaining.
“We aimed to win, but the sense of achievement and relief at this milestone is undeniable,” he concluded, expressing optimism for the future while recognizing the team’s dedication in their pursuit of success.
