Omar Bolaji Gambari Positions Himself as Strong Contender for PDP Ticket in Kwara State
Omar Bolaji Gambari, the son of the late Chief of Staff to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, is vying for the governorship of Kwara State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). On Thursday, he expressed optimism about securing the party’s ticket for the upcoming 2027 elections.
During an interaction with reporters in Ilorin, Gambari reflected on his recent participation in the selection of PDP gubernatorial candidates held in Abuja. He conveyed a strong belief that the PDP would defy expectations and reclaim its influence in Kwara State by 2027.
Gambari emphasized, “Kwara 2027 will not be business as usual. PDP will surprise the people by giving back power. We will win.” His aspirations are fueled by a commitment to delivering a government that prioritizes the welfare of the community and effectively addresses the economic and social challenges residents currently face.
He noted that many citizens are disillusioned with the prevailing environment of multiple taxation and the rising cost of living under the All Progressives Congress (APC) regime. “Since the APC assumed control of Kwara State in 2019, the populace has grown weary of excuses. Residents are seeking tangible results and a government that truly understands their struggles. The current situation is untenable and must be addressed,” Gambari articulated.
In preparation for the upcoming elections, the PDP is ramping up grassroots mobilization efforts across all 16 local government areas in the state. Gambari remarked on the pronounced unity and reformation within the party compared to previous electoral cycles. “The PDP of 2019 and 2023 is not the PDP that we will present in 2027. We are taking significant steps to fortify the party. Our aim is to displace the APC and provide the people with the governance they deserve,” he asserted.
Under the leadership of Abdulrahman Muhammad and the National Working Committee (NEC), the PDP has begun the selection process for presidential and gubernatorial candidates scheduled for the 2027 general elections. This initiative is taking place at the party’s national secretariat annex, Legacy House, in Maitama, Abuja. The committee overseeing the gubernatorial selection is headed by former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, with Mr. George Arior serving as Secretary-General.
Additionally, the factional Interim NWC of the party announced an extension for the purchase of nomination forms and expressions of interest for all elective positions. A public notice, co-signed by National Public Relations Secretary Mr. Ini Emebobon and National Organizing Secretary Mr. Theophilus Shan, indicated that the sale of nomination papers will conclude on May 15. The deadline for submitting completed forms is set for May 18, followed by screening of candidates on May 19. The party’s leadership stated that this extension was in response to requests from stakeholders and supporters nationwide.
